$44,276???

You can find a pretty decent used, but late-model, truck for a third of that. That dealership sure saw the Posts coming down Debt Street.

Our first home, a three bedroom ranch, cost less than this in 1976...

The $44,276 includes the rolled-over debt of $9,500. The debt for the new car (100% financed) is $34,800 — still pretty large. If you get out of the mindset of buying a new car, you can let somebody else take the huge initial years’ depreciation. We bought a three year old loaded Eddie Bauer Expedition w 45,000 miles for about $18,000 a couple years ago, just less than half of the new price. Other than being a monstrous gas hog, it’s a great vehicle.
