Exactly, the right of contract, not its precise form, is what's important here. The use of a civil union could arguably be the sop that prevents the assault on marriage.

I am unaware of any state that has legalized civil union where gay marriage has been legalized.

A “civil contract” law will never satisfy the activists. They want to basically be able to old everybody down, kicking and screaming, and FORCE them to say that they are “married” in the eyes of God and Man.

Anything else will never be enough for them, mark my words!

So I don’t really give a hoot about what they do or where they do it - but they are struggling to force me to believe something I WILL NEVER BELIEVE!

So this is a power play. Little else.
