China was reported to have been negotiating with Russia to purchase 6~8 Zubr class (Project 1232.2) air cushion landing craft (LCAC) built by Almaz Shipbuilding JSC of Saint Petersburg. Zubr class is the world’s largest air cushion craft. The vessel came into service in 1986, with three vessels currently in service with the Russian Navy and two in Ukrainian Navy. Four vessels were also exported to the Greek Navy between 2001 and 2004.

It doesn't look very stealthy, although I guess its purpose is to go across the strait to Taiwan quickly.

Guess they couldn't wait for Hillary to get into office and sell them US Technology.

Mk. 48 targets...

These are air cushion vehicles. They ride above the surface so there is nothing for the Mk 48 to hit.

Spent some time with the LCAC’s. Great capability, but maintenance intensive. Very complicated pieces of machinery.

China sells us super-cheap manufactured stuff, hollowing out our ability to manufacture things.

(cheaper than bombing our factories)

We send them trillions of dollars, which they spend making Russia’s defense industries stronger.

While they learn to do the same.

This strike anyone else as (extremely) unwise for America?

Most modern torpedoes have an attack mode where they detonate below a ship, rather than hitting its side. You doubt an air-cushion vehicle wouldn’t be damaged by an explosion directly below it?

Most modern torpedoes have an attack mode where they detonate below a ship, rather than hitting its side.

Warheads like that are triggered by the magnetic mass of the ships hull. ACACs have no hull. No hull, no magenetic mass. No magnetic mass, no boom.
