“So this April 15, why don’t you include an extra $1,000 in your tax return and make it payable to “Bureau of the Public Debt” to cover all of us who would rather our money be spent here?”
Thats quaint but we’ve been spending our money in other countries for a long long time. Much of that money is spent on US Contractors. That money comes back to the US. I’d rather rebuild their power stations than build new ones here after they blow em up.
“Were always expanding, rebuilding, modernizing, replacing our physical plant, including substations. We dont have any crumbling ones that I know of.”
Sure we have infrastructure problems here but the problem isn’t really lack of money. Its lack of will, new bridges don’t get people reelected. Universal healthcare and other entitlement programs is what gets people elected so the money will be spent there.
“We had rolling 15-minute blackouts here in Texas in 2006 because the electrical infrastructure could not support the demand. An extra 400 kV substation here sure would have helped.”
Turning off a light or two might also be a solution.
Just that the Iraqis couldn’t run a lemonade stand.
You also have a great 2008.
Well, duh, maybe it's so that we won't have rolling blackouts like you have in Texas.
And if I had my way, we would never spend another nickel on the ungrateful cesspool that calls itself New Orleans. Except maybe to fill the place in.
