Well, the ratio of innocent family dogs dying by trigger-happy cops is still much higher. Color me unsympathetic.

It may not be the murder of a police officer, but the perps actions cause the death of a law enforcement agent who was killed in the line of duty
The dog gave his life in the cause of justice. To me that makes the dog more human and certainly very deserving of a proper police burial with full honors.
As for the perp; I had an aunt who was very found of saying, the more I see of people, the better I like dogs.

If we had peace officers instead of law enforcement officers, no dog would have been on the force, Please explain why "peace officers" shouldn't have dogs for tracking, detection, guarding evidence, or hot pursuit of a person observed in the act of committing a violent crime.

I'm sorry to hear about this brave dog's death.
I think we should take a look at cases like this and keep dogs off the front lines. Cops already have guns. We don't need to be endangering dogs. The only purpose they serve is finding drugs in the useless drug war that needs to be ended anyway.
The police dogs can be better used for finding people in collapsed buildings. That's safer for the dogs.

We don't need to be endangering dogs. The only purpose they serve is finding drugs in the useless drug war that needs to be ended anyway. You are apparently totally ignorant of many of the functions cop-dogs perform, much less what it takes to teach them.
The police dogs can be better used for finding people in collapsed buildings. That's safer for the dogs.
No, it's is considerably more dangerous than the functions you deem too hazardous.

That’s crazy talk...
The dog did no such thing. It gave it’s life because it gets a doggie snack after it obeys it’s master.

Please explain why "peace officers" shouldn't have dogs for tracking, detection, guarding evidence, or hot pursuit of a person observed in the act of committing a violent crime. That's why in the old days, they used to call them "flatfoots".
Other than that, peace officers are a thing of the past. We only have law enforcement officers now.
Peace officers kept the peace. Law enforcement officers enforce the law.

The dog actually took the driver to the ground and then he actually lifted the dog up and jumped over the side, CHP Sgt. Steven Toth said. That does not sound credible. Most likely the guy decided to jump and the dog did not let go.
Most people do not realize that dogs, espcially trained ones, are fairly easy to defeat one on one. It takes some nerve and sometimes the willingness to get mildy injured, but dropping a dog is not hard.

One of the ways “peace officers” kept the peace was by arresting law breakers.
