My Political Passion & the Rare Good Thing

Several months ago, I heard some news that really sparked my interest and a little bit of hope inside of me, the news that Fred Thompson (that conservative actor from Law & Order…lol) was considering running for the Presidency. I knew a little bit about him. Right off the bat I suspected that he was a true conservative, not just a republican who had some idea what true conservatives were voting for. I also knew that he had come to acting through an unusual route and had his beginnings in a legal career that had been put to good purpose. So I felt a little spark of hope thinking that a person who really knew the reality of what our country and our society needs might be found in a person who might be that rare total package that voters really needed (that package that includes so many things, not the least of which are ability to lead and winnability.)

I began to do a little research and investigate Fred Thompson for further information. My passion for politics, which some of you know about, was reignited. I began to rethink all the debates I had with my husband over the last 6 years about a proper use of my personal vote. (We have had many a lively discussion on conservatism, Marxism, sociology, tort reform, the history of the Supreme Court, leadership, winnability, and mostly the concept of sticking with a political party vs. using your personal vote for someone you can really believe is a good choice for the job.)

I began remembering to pray for our country and our leadership more once again, as a person in her thirties may easily have done less and less of considering what we go through if we actually pay attention to what goes on in Washington and in our state governments. I began to investigate the other candidates that Thompson would be facing in the primaries and later in the actual election. Several times I noticed some good thing about another candidate and wondered if there might actually be two or three viable choices that I could be happy to see win. Over time I kept coming back to just hoping and praying for Fred Thompson who I will most definitely be voting for in the primaries.

No matter what disillusionment or frustrations you may have suffered over time, no matter what jaded view of politicians you may hold, I would submit that Fred Thompson is a good candidate.

And I highly recommend that you watch his message to Iowa. http://www.fred08.com/Virtual/FDTIowaSpeech.aspx

I wrote this as I've been getting my feet wet with purposefully writing or purposefully improving my writing. Hope it's ok as vanities/opinion pieces go. :)

You might get in trouble for that “Activism / Chapters” thing.

You’re right, Fred Thompson is a good candidate. I would say he is the best candidate, and not just by a little bit.

That's good.

Good job (from a professional writer).

Sugg: drop the ‘lol’ and other Internet short-isms like it that detract from the seriousness/formality of your writing.

The best strategy is, vote your conscience in the primary (for me, it is Duncan Hunter) .. but back the party in the general.

There may be things we don't like about each candidate, and we will differ as to what they are and the severity of that difference, but by and large .. as conservatives .. there is (some) good in each Republican candidate.

No matter how hard I try to be objective and look to see if there is any democrat with something I might like ... I honestly can't see a single thing in any democrat candidate that is even close to redeemable.

So, no matter whom our nominee is ... he is by far better than any democrat.

My greatest fear is Ron Paul and the potential for him to wage a third party campaign ...

You are wise among your peers.
Keep the faith, and pray for Fred, because, the future of our country depends on GOD sending the right leader at the right time.
