Last time PW County was dominated by Souvrn'rs was about 35 years ago.

The overwhelming majority of the population from Woodbridge to Mansassas is from somewhere else ~ the NE, the Midwest, the West, Europe, Asia, India, Africa ~ truly an incredible melange.

There is a large legal immigrant population in PW County.

Many of the newcomers continue to have a taste for cheap servants from "back home" ~ you'd better believe they're scared ~ slavery is against the law here and has been for 152 years or thereabouts!

I’ve never been there, but I don’t think of the DC environs as ‘southern’. I know in Civil War terms they were, but that was a while back now. Culturally, I see that area as East Coast Yankee.

Even 20 years ago, when I lived in various spots around Fairfax and Herndon, a lot of Prince William (primarily the US 1 corridor around Woodbridge/Dale City) was really being transformed by Hispanic immigrants, legal and otherwise.

I had a co-worker back then, originally from New Jersey, who bought a house all the way out in Nokesville. Oh, how she used to complain about it! Too far out in the country, the neighbors were just a bunch of white trash rednecks, blah blah blah, oh my GAWD all these kids in the schools with their blue FFA jackets, blah blah blah. One day she was railing about the schools and I said, “Michelle, you know, I got a Virginia public school education in a place a LOT more out in the sticks than Nokesville.” She said, and I quote: “Yeah, but you’re normal!” I wanted to grab her and say “get the hell outta my South and MOVE BACK TA JOISEY, YA BIMBO!”
