A significant number of Republicans will not vote for Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee or McCain, as evidenced by the level of passionate comments against these candidates in the blogosphere. Whether it’s 5% or 25% of total Republican votes, it will be enough to lose.

However, if Thompson is the nominee, all Republicans will vote for him, because he has no significant policy or ideological negatives. Thompson will unite the party like Reagan did, even bringing in many Reagan Democrats.

Fred is the best shot we have at keeping the White House.

Excatly! I honestly don’t understand why Fred isn’t running away with this. Either we are becoming more liberal. Or (as suspect) we need to lose the whitehouse to make us unite to defeat the socialists. To many people thinking I have my one issue and that’s all I’ll vote for. So you have the Rudy 911 voters. Huckabee...Christian is the only way to vote voters. And the McCainiacs...he was a POW that gets my vote voters. Oh and the Romney...he has now flipped to my side of issue X so he gets my vote voters.

But Fred has all conservative issues based on his record and his statements all wrapped up. He’s probably everyone’s #2 candidate, but being #2 isn’t enough. So if Fred is anyone’s #2 candidate....just bump him up to #1 and watch the party unite.
