1000 years after that women were still subject to their husbands or older brothers. They didn’t get to vote in most countries for well over a 1000 years. They couldn’t hold most jobs and in many cases all the property went directly to the son leaving the daughters with nothing except being dependent on the brothers.
Some of the things done to “upity” women in Christian nations have been horrific.

And this compares to the tradition of female circumcision, honor killings, and beatings?
My mother (b. 1916) grew up in rural Arkansas and her only memory of KKK activity concerned Klan threats to White men who mistreated their wives.
