The quickest way to get the liberal media to pay attention to you is to claim to be a Republican who hates Republicans. It's an almost infallible public relations strategy that of late has worked well for "Republican" Monica Green.
It's also done wonders for "lifelong Republican" Henry A. Lowenstein, who has managed to get 20 different letters published in the New York Times since 2003, a remarkable feat when you consider that the Times (by its own admission) receives around 1,000 letters a day and prints only 15 on its letters page. That means the odds of the average liberal person (the paper freely admits it favors left-wing letter writers) getting his or her letter printed are about 1.5 percent.
It's worse when you think of the numbers on a yearly scale. In the past five years, the Times has received approximately 1.8 million letters. It's printed 20 of Lowenstein's.
Remarkable really. But not really all that surprising when you consider the Times's history of quoting people like Greg Packer, a liberal New Yorker obsessed with getting press about any topic under the sun.
Back to Lowenstein though. What sorts of things does "life-long" Republican say anyway? Let's take a look.

Good catch.
There ought to be a law against things like this.

I once wrote a letter to the Times many years ago asking why their maps of Israel always used the label “occupied territories” after the Six Day War, whereas their maps of Tibet always showed Tibet as simply a part of China.
Why did they apparently condone and approve of China’s conquest of Tibet, which was completely unprovoked, but refuse to recognize the Israeli conquest of neighboring territories, even though Israel was attacked by these neighbors, and only fought back to defend itself and preserve its very existence?
I got not one, but two anxious letters from Times spokespersons in reply, assuring me that there were (regretably unclear) reasons for their editorial practice with these maps. But my letter remained unpublished, naturally.
Contributions only to Democrats, supported Kerry and Obama.
Yeah, this guy is a Republican!
It fits the Times letters—one of which praises Kerry.
Every paper seems to have one of these - probably for the letter editor”s amusement.
The Washington Post has a couple of them, and the Washington Times has a William Stosine from Iowa, a gay activist, who has (liberal) commentary on everything under the sun. He also is a regular in a lot of other papers, spamming op-eds all over the place.

Last time, it was only 3 days between letters for a local Democrat County official.

I,.. I am Shocked...
Liberals lie???!!!
Sarcasm off.
I wouldn’t call most of those “bashers.” Most of these people have praised Bush for some things and criticized him for others. That’s a good thing; we should want the Republicans to be a party of issues, not a party of personality.
As far as Republicans who have shifted to Democrats, I can only think of three examples.
1. People who grew up in Republican households and became Democrats when they were in the age 18-22 range. The most common reason is that they identify Republicanism with a parent they don’t like.
2. People who were in the Republican party for reasons of convenience and thus have no ideological loyalty anyway. I’m thinking of Lincoln Chaffee and Jim Jeffords.
3. Paul Craig Roberts. He’s in a class by himself. He was once a brilliant economist who now seems to think that 9/11 was an inside job.
Leftist Dems are instructed to post letters as renegade Republicans.
And don’t think for a minute the newspapers aren’t aware they’re being scammed. I told the Chicago Tribune public editor about one such scam artist who claimed he’d “registered as a Democrat in Illinois” after being a lifelong Illinois Republican. Even the Libune shouldn’t need the civics 101 lesson I gave them—that there is NO party registration in Illinois. That the letter writer was obviously an out of stater sending a form letter.
