“What exactly should Israel do? What can it do? What must it do? Are pre-emptive measures part of the possibilities?”
Definitely... not sure how else one can interpret “Israel needs to be wiped off the map.”

As I see it, there is no good option. Israel will have to strike Iran first and destroy as much of its nuclear capability as she can. Sitting around waiting for Iran to destroy Israel first is not something she can tolerate. Israel will have to find a way to get the job done, preferably with the US as a partner but if necessary alone on her own.

The good news is that Israel has nuclear-armed subs. The bad news is that this may not deter the Mohammedan crazies.

Israel bombing Iran's nuke sites would be just a temporary measure - it will not stop the mullahs from getting the bomb. The only way the problem can be resolved is for the world community to pull its collective head from its ass and use overwhelming force to effect a regime change in Tehran.
Of course, we know what the chances are of that happening.

The day after? .
That's totally new to me. The bedrock of Israel's survival and very mindset of/for its overall military strategy has been one of preemption as it emphatically demonstrated in the Six-Day War
and its approach in dealing with Iraq's burgeoning nuclear capacity.
In instances where Israel did not, could not implement this strategy it nearly destroyed the nation as a
result as demonstrated in the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
The reports of Israel making purchases of a large number of bunker-buster bombs, of top-secret military forays by American/Israeli intel-ops into the Iranian hinterlands, the specter of WWIII raised by the President, the militarily, strategic objective at preemption especially dealing with nuclear weapons being acquired by a regime as borderline psycho as Iran, seemed to leave America or at the very least, last,
resort, Israel, possible savior of the world? no other viable option but preemption.
So, this talk of the Day After, by Israel no less, is not only confusing, perplexing but much more overwhelmingly so, a sobering, chilling revelation.
