Bill Clinton boosts wife's bid

Martin Kettle in Bow, New Hampshire Saturday January 5, 2008 Guardian Unlimited

Bill Clinton threw himself into the task of spearheading his wife Hillary's presidential campaign recovery effort across New Hampshire today, praising her as a practical political problem-solver who can get things done and borrowing a phrase from Tony Blair to dub her as "the best change maker" in American politics.

As Hillary Clinton prepared for tonight's crucial televised debate in New Hampshire, confining herself to two morning appearances before hunkering down with her campaign advisers, the former president did his best to trigger a comeback reminiscent of his own campaign here in 1992. Bill Clinton led the charge across southern New Hampshire, paying an emotional tribute to his wife as an "extraordinary" human being and "the most trustworthy, the most reliable, the best person I have ever known".

Where was he really tonight? I think we can guess that it was likely with someone he finds a little more likeable than his wretched wife.

Yes, the last several days have been very enjoyable. But I think we are far from seeing her demise.

Yeah, but she's really, really bad at fellatio.

For the first time since getting elected in her own right (in a heavily democrat state) Hillary (and Bill) are operating from a position of verified weakness as opposed to a presumed strength. Bill can probably pull in a few votes in NH for Hillary but I believe ultimately the voters are going to do what many of us do when we are approached with a free sample of teriyaki chicken at the food court: enjoy the sample and buy our lunch from another establishment.

90% of the democrats who are voting for Hillary Clinton are voting for Bill Clinton not Hillary Clinton.

I wouldn’t say the hate her, they no longer trust or like her is more accurate. These are democrats, many of whom supported her initially (according to a show of hands at the first third of the tape). They felt her answers tonight were neither genuine nor responsive in a positive sense == in comparison to Obama’s answers. FUNNY: we have known she is a hollow shirt screaching “for the children” with no real substance for nearly two decades. They finally caught on.

Bill Clinton will torpedo his wife’s campaign and look like he was helping. he’s that good... and believe me he doesn’t want to be remembered as America’s FIRST First Man.
