His [Chief of Police] department late Friday asked the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to handle the investigation to be fair to the community and his officers. The agency is under the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Why does the town of Lima need a SWAT team? There are only 40,000 people in this town. Certainly a normal police force could handle all the problems that could crop up? In this case, it looks like a few para-milataries busted in a house and shot dead a mother holding a babe in arms. Then shot the babe.

I don't blame him for kicking this problem upstairs to the Ohio BoCI&I. It's just sickening when these things happen. And they are happening with greater frequency.

Tasers away, Leos.

Lima, Ohio is known as being a drug trafficking town. It’s a hub for Toledo, Detroit, Indianapolis and other points...at least that’s what people who’ve lived there say.

Every little burg feels it needs a SWAT to be In The Big Time. The name of it is Prestige. And when you have one you use it.If you don’t have deadly gangs or other reasons you use it anyway. Prestige.

Same reason my county does. Had to figure on something to spend all those Homeland Security dollars on.

The feds have militarized “Law Enforcement” in all towns of this size and larger. Machine guns, etc. Lots of high-amperage SWAT training.

Tyranny won’t come in a US military uniform, it will come with a local agency patch on the shoulder.

Why does the town of Lima need a SWAT team?

There is probably some form of funding available for this program, which helps support local spending for police and other government expenses. The lure of money is a powerful thing for local governments. Besides, it's cool, and that helps attract police officer candidates..

And, I'll make a wild bet here: if the money source is traced back to the origin, it ends up being part of the reason that the national debt of the USA has increased.

Very bad drug problems.

You don't go into parts of Lima when the sun goes down. The police don't go into parts of Lima alone at night.

The Allen County Sheriff's Department also has a SWAT team that also serves about 50 high risk warrants a year. Lima is in Allen County.

In this case, it looks like a few para-milataries busted in a house and shot dead a mother holding a babe in arms.

The guy they were after had been previously convicted on drug dealing and weapons charges.

They had two pit bulls in the house. The pit bulls attacked the officers when they entered. The officers shot the dogs in self defense. The mother and child were not targeted, they were hit by bullets shot at the dogs.
