so you're taking the actions of a criminal and turning it into an indictment of the entire law enforcement system. ridiculous. unmarked cars are imperative for a number of operations. traffic control being one of them. the officers in unmarked traffic control cars, however, should be in uniform.

word to the wise, if you are suspicious about being pulled over by a fake cop, drive until you get to a well lit, public area and stop there. no real cop will blame you for that.

"so you're taking the actions of a criminal and turning it into an indictment of the entire law enforcement system."

Violent rapists are benefitting from the misuse of unmarked police cars by law enforcement.

Every time an unmarked police car is used for interdiction (i.e. to make an actual stop), the public is taught to pull over for civilian vehicles with lights.

So the rapist buys a Harley or a Crown Vic, mounts some lights, and pulls over women and little boys of his choice...who have to stop because the public has been conditioned to stop (please, no internet bravado about not stopping) for unmarked vehicles.

There is a use for unmarked police cars...for surveillance, but not for making actual stops. It's that direct interdiction that spawns the abuse of unmarked cars that facilitates violent crimes on our highways...often against people who fear to report the crime becuase they falsely believe that they've been robbed and raped by a real cop.

So it's a very real problem with enormous consequences. It should be stopped.

Every state should pass laws that forbid the use of unmarked cars for interdiction. Sure, allow them for surveillence, but that's all.

In this manner the public would grow to learn to not stop for rapists and robbers who masquerade as cops.

why? when 80+ % of traffic is rolling down the highway at 70-80 mph in a 65 zone its like the inverted cop lottery...

“no real cop will blame you for that.”

I used to believe this but after posting this question on several “ask a cop” bulletin boards I realized that there are a lot of cops out there that do everything in their power to crush you if you tried it.

As a police officer, you don’t get the other end of this equation, and never will.

Today, people like you don’t get the idea that we the people don’t know whether or not the person barking orders is a real LEO or not. If we guess wrong, we die at the hands of the State. If not, we die at the hands of a sicko. Some choice, eh?

If we believe the person with the badge, we have a 50/50 chance the person is a sworn officer. Better yet, we have a 50/50 chance the officer actually understands that he/she is not a roving Constitution free zone, where the LEO believes that the US citizen’s rights vanish in LEO’s exalted presence (in the name of ‘officer safety’). Our odds are not good. But as long as YOU get to go home safe, right? Doesn’t matter how many citizens you kill in the course of your duties. As long as YOU go home safe. At the risk of some weasel involving their misunderstanding Godwin’s Law, that is what the G-D Nazis used to think. And the Stalinists. And Mao’s adherents. The State is NEVER to be trusted.

And LEOs are agents of the State.

So we should trust you... why?
