Obama, Huckabee Surge In Latest National Poll
Gallup Organization ^ | 1/8/08 | Lydia Saad and Jeffrey M. Jones

The latest USA Today/Gallup poll of national adults was conducted in the days immediately following the Iowa caucuses, from Jan. 4-6. According to that survey, both winners out of Iowa -- Republican Mike Huckabee and Democrat Barack Obama -- now have pulled even or slightly ahead in their respective primary races among voters nationwide. Prior to Iowa, Obama was mired in second position behind Hillary Clinton and Huckabee was tied for second place with several Republicans behind then-front-runner Rudy Giuliani.

Obama Rising

The survey finds Obama tied with Clinton for first place, his best showing in months. Both candidates are now chosen by 33% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents nationwide as the preferred candidate for the nomination. This is a major shift from mid-December, when Clinton led Obama by 18 points, 45% to 27%.

The Republican Picture

Following Huckabee's Iowa win, 25% of Republicans nationwide now rate him as their top choice for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, up from 16% in mid-December. Sen. John McCain also saw his support increase during that time, from 14% to 19%. After losing the expectations game in Iowa by coming in second, Romney is now suffering a decline in national support, putting him well out of range for the lead. His current 9% of the vote is his worst showing in the race since early October.

Support for Giuliani, who chose not to compete in Iowa and has been shut out of the media spotlight, has also dropped, from 27% to 20%. Fred Thompson and Ron Paul are essentially holding steady at 12% and 4%, respectively.

Huckabee's five-point advantage over Giuliani and six-point edge over McCain still fall within the poll's margin of error, so from a strict statistical perspective, the three are essentially tied.

And if you take out the staff of Fox News, the editorial board of National Review and the Wall Street Journal, Romney's support is at about 0%.

Praying for a huge Flip defeat in NH today.

The impact of mass-marketing of certain candidates by the MSM is devastating, IMHO. The couch-potatoes across the country absorb all the "nightly news" as factual and go with the flow....

This is why Democrats will continue to hold both Houses of Congress in 2008, and will very likely win the White House. The billions of dollars that the DNC-controlled MSM provides in basically free airtime promotion on nightly news cannot be overcome when the truth is not available to the masses who depend SOLELY on the TV set for their information.

This country is in deep doo-doo.....

National polls are meaningless til after the nominees have been selected.

Myth Romney does have a big family, I would say the true number is closer to 0.2%

Who needs polls? Right here we have gone 10 posts on a Huckabee story without someone making fun of his looks or name.

Incorrect.

National polls are a good overall look at where things stand for Super Tuesday, since that encompasses a huge chunk of the US population in diverse areas.

I would bet most of Rudy's 20% is heavily concentrated in New York Metro, and that he's in single digits elsewhere.

I've been saying since 2004 that the 2008 election will be a barometer on how much power the MSM still wields. As alternative media sources arise and start to show real power, the MSM lefties have become almost punch-drunk with the need to further the leftist agenda. They will pull out all the stops this time, and if they have enough power remaining to swing an election, say hello to President Hillary or President Obama.

Rudy is probably polling in the negatives in NYC - Nobody likes him and after wrapping himself in 9/11 nobody respects him.

The couch-potatoes across the country absorb all the "nightly news" as factual and go with the flow....,

correct, Most people are lazy when doing the right thing to save their Republic. I suggest everyone contact their friends and relatives around the country and tell them about Fred. I had friends in FL who said they were leaning to Huck (they only heard the MSM spin). After I filled them in on Fred and gave them some sites to visit, they came back to me with changed minds! I think Fred picked up 4 more votes in FL and 2 in KY just from a little informing.

I am astounded how people are too lazy to inform themselves of the candidates. It would be the end of our beloved Republic if the two ultra leftists, Huck and the demo candidate comes out on top in the primaries.
