Sixth Presidential Candidate Files for Kansas GOP Caucus Fred Thompson becomes 6th candidate to participate in KS Caucus
Topeka, KSToday, Fred Thompson became the sixth candidate to file for the Kansas GOP Presidential Caucus. Thompsons campaign filed the official paperwork and paid the filing fee this morning.
Kansas Republican Party Chairman Kris Kobach stated, Im delighted to see that the Thompson Campaign has decided to devote its resources and attention to the Kansas Republican Caucus.
With the filing of Senator Thompson for the Kansas Republican Caucus, we nearly have a full field. The candidates all recognize that if there is no clear winner coming out of Super Tuesday on February 5th, the Kansas Caucus will be an important battle ground.
The KS GOP Caucus will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008. In order to participate in the caucus, participants must be registered as a Republican by January 25, 2008 and must provide a photo ID at the caucus location. For more information about the caucus visit www.ksgopcaucus.org.
Our caucuses are 4 days after 'Super Tuesday', so this is a sign Fred is in for the long haul.
Keep the faith, fellow FredHeads. Fred's the only candidate able to unify the factions of the GOP, so even if he doesn't have the most delegates going into the convention, Fred could still get the nomination from a brokered convention.
“Fred’s the only candidate able to unify the factions of the GOP, so even if he doesn’t have the most delegates going into the convention, Fred could still get the nomination from a brokered convention.”
Correct!
But but but I thought he was going to drop out and endorse McLame?
/MSM off
I’m convinced all it would take is coverage from the MSM to boost Fred in the polls.
I went to see Fred today in SC and before the lunchtime meeting I mentioned to some people at work I was going. You could tell their only clue to Fred was what they have seen on the MSM. They didn’t dislike him they just either knew he was low in the polls or knew very little about him.
Sad.
Yep, he’s getting ready to jump ship.
This is one Kansan who will be there, voting for Fred.
While I was putting my post together, you apparently posted. Sorry! This is very good news and I am very pleased to have some encouragement tonight!
GO FRED GO!
Has Kansas always had a caucus? I thought we had a primary election?
Nope, we used to have primaries, then the state decided it wasn’t worth the expense. Caucuses sound like more fun anyway: turn up and speak on behalf of your guy, try to change minds, then vote. The site doesn’t give the rules of order, so I’m not sure whether each caucus has to reach a majority for one guy on multiple ballots, or how the delegates will be selected.
“Has Kansas always had a caucus?”
This is the first year I heard of Kansas having a caucus. I don’t think this state has had a caucus before, if Kansas did, it was long long ago.
Then, you have opportunities to educate. I plan to volunteer to call in SC over the weekend, on behalf of Fred. Calling strangers for a candidate scares the crap out of me, but I am going to do it, as I look at the rest of our candidates, I know I must.
MOgirl
Can you please clarify something for me. I have been a registered voter since the dawn of time. However my registration card doesn’t show my party that I can see. How can I prove I’m a republican so I can participate in the caucus?
I think you need to ask either the party or the county board of elections in your county.
The date on the story is Jan 2007.
Typo on the KS GOP’s part.
