"This is perhaps the biggest voter rights case taken up by the justices since the 2000 dispute over Florida's ballots, where George W. Bush prevailed, essentially giving him the presidency."

Note the subtle rewriting of history. The supreme court didn't "give him the presidency". The supreme court simply declared that the vote that gave him the presidency was valid.

Once I see bias such as this, I simply stop reading, since I won't believe anything else that is said by the source.

"I saw on Fox & FRiends this morning that Dems are encouraging their voters to come out and vote for Huckabee in the Michigan primary. They had their votes taken away from them because of the early primary and Michigan allows voters to cross over and vote in either primary."

I saw that interview, also. When Steve asked him why they were going to vote for Huckabee, he said it is "because he seems like a genuine fellow -- like Gomer Pyle."

In my county in NYS, whether one is poor, a minority, regardless of age, all that person has to do to get an ID is go to the sheriff’s office and get one, FREE. Although I have an ID, I can vote without producing it.

All would-be-voters in any state should be required to produce an ID. This will do away with the voters who are frauds.

Among those cited by Democrats is Mary-Jo Criswell, a 71-year-old Indianapolis Democrat, who could not vote last November because she had no driver’s license or valid passport.

Why couldn't she get her dr licence replaced, or get a picture ID from her state? I don't know about other states, but in my state, the MVD issues ID cards to: underage, elderly, any legal resident who doesn't want or need a driver's license.

After my dad passed on and I brought my elderly mother to live with my wife and I, she wasn't driving anymore, and we wanted to register her to vote in our state, so we took her to MVD, surrendered her out-of-state drivers license, and they issued her a state picture ID (which looks almost the same as a drivers license) at no charge!

Also interesting that the guy in the interview was black, and both Obama and Edwards have pulled their name from the Michigan Primary. The only one in the race in Michigan is Hillary.

it should be a no-brainer.

That's just another way of saying "even liberals should get it."

Exactly, if you don’t have what it takes to prove who you are, you certainly shouldn’t be allowed to vote. No-brainer.

concerns that it could deprive thousands of people of their right to vote

Baloney.

The only actual constitutional concern is that the state must assure that anyone who is entitled to vote has a way of obtaining ID free of charge (to avoid running afoul of the prohibition on poll taxes).

I wonder why the dems don’t want to have photo ID when voting just like they don’t in CA

maybe to let illegals vote as they know many illagals especially in CA will vote for the dems. It’s the dems what should be took to court for allowing or making it easier for the political process to be undermind.

I’d ;like to see not just photo ID but also SS number put into a computer database and see if that person is here legally
DMV has a data base why not the election dept

it could deprive thousands of people of their right to vote

There is NO RIGHT TO VOTE.

That is strictly a state's rights issue, which is why some felons can vote and some can't from state to state.

Any state that does not confirm voter identity is screwing their residents.

I do hope this ruling stands.

They owned property in both states; therefore, they FEEL that they have the right to vote in both states.

Wow, I’m getting shafted! I own property in 50 states. I have only voted in one. Where did I miss out on my rights?

For me, I would say that if one doesn’t have ID, then a thumbprint would do, if there is fraud, it would be pretty obvious.

Yes!... I know some people will go insane to hear this... But I actually think, a National ID (Even better) would help ALL OF US to be more secured.

Maybe it puts McVain on suicide watch, too!

Voting for McCain destroys what remains of our sovreignty!

I'd rather be waterboarded than vote for John McCain.

That article says "Proponents of the law, including Rokita, believe it will better protect Hoosiers from voter fraud and identity theft. Critics say it unfairly burdens the poor, elderly and members of certain faiths, such as Amish. "

Excuse me? The "poor" need an ID to cash their welfare cheques. The "elderly" need ID to cash their Social Security cheques. And the Amish 1. do not vote 2. have BMV-issued ID cards

If a brother or sister votes, he will be separated from the church. And the IN BMV has special provisions to issue non-photo IDs if you come in with a letter from the ministry attesting that as a faithful and obedient Amishman, you have a Biblical objection to having your photo taken.

See, FR is so inclusive that some former Amish are members here. Wanna see my old ID? (needed it for banking and driving the carriage on the roads - we had to obey highway safety laws, too.)

My mother never drove a car either, but she has a free state-issued ID card, and had no difficulty getting it.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Just the fact that you know the Tenth Amendment exists indicates you’re a conservative. The problem is that most libs and too many judges think the Tenth has been superseded by the Fourteenth and they’ll find a way, “equal rights” or “privileges and immunities” to apply a decision adversely impacting conservatives in this matter. Unless of course Justice Kennedy is taking his meds when the decision is written...
