President Bush, summing up meetings with both sides in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute, said today that a peace accord will require "painful political concessions" by each. Resolving the status of Jerusalem will be hard, he said, and he called for the end of the "occupation" of Arab land by the Israeli military.
"Now is the time to make difficult choices," Bush said after a first-ever visit to the Palestinian territories, which followed separate meetings with Israeli leaders in Jerusalem the day before.
Bush is in the Mideast for eight days, trying to bolster his goal of achieving a long-elusive peace agreement by the end of his presidency in a year. Speaking at his hotel in Jerusalem, he said again that he thinks that is possible.

Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, right, shows the way to President Bush upon his arrival today at Abbas's headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (Genesis 12:2-3)
Bush disgusts me.
More Israeli concessions in return for Palestinian promises.
Every struggling president always tries to “fix the Palestinian problem” before leaving in an effort to vindicate their legacy.
He shoulda stayed stateside. The US meddling in Israeli affairs over the last few years has caused nothing but trouble for them.
Bush ought to read a few history books before making such idiotic statements.
What has happened to this man? And why is it every American President, in their last year in office, always tries to broker peace in Israel?
BUSH IS CLUELESS........ Proof below...
“President Bush announced his intention to push a Mideast treaty between Israel and the Palestinians even as he admitted that the Palestinian side has not met a single one of its prior obligations under the ‘Road Map’!
While standing side-by-side with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Bush acknowledged that Hamas was dedicated to Israel’s destruction, that Hamas was in control of Gaza, and that Hamas was elected in a democratic election.
The next day, while standing beside Mahmoud Abbas, who has no control over Gaza, no control over Hamas, has made no effort to disarm Hamas, as Palestinian rockets still rain down on Israel Bush called on Israel to fulfill it’s obligations under the Road Map, suggesting that tactic might “encourage the Palestinians to do the same.”
Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, quickly dismissed Bush and Abbas’ hopeful comments.
“This meeting was for public relations only, it was an empty meeting without results, only more dreams and waste of time,” the Hamas spokesman said.”
No it ain’t! Jerusalem is ALL Israel’s!
I truly believe he is a basically good and God fearing man but he doesn't know his bible very well and he doesn't understand the history of Israel since it became a state.
The "Palestinian" land he claims Israel "must cease occupation of" was won fair and square during the 6 Day War in which every surrounding Arab nation attacked Israel -- NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!
Go home, President Bush and stay out of what is no concern of yours as you obviously have no sense of history.
Woe unto America. We’re in big trouble. This is a shameful thing that Bush has done! He has sinned against Almighty God! America is going down!
A President in “Legacy Mode” is a very dangerous thing.
Palestinian “concession” = “OK, we’ll only blow up one bus a month in Jerusalem instead of two.”
Israel should unify Jerusalem, re-occupy Gaza and the Golan, and evict the Palestinians who won’t peacefully assimilate. It’s time for them to end this once and for all before one of the Muslim powers arrayed against them gets their hands on a nuke.
