The incident apparently happened last month. A six-year-old girl was seen kissing a second grade boy several times while they were riding in the school bus, and the boy was seen kissing her back. The girl's actions landed her in some hot water as her parents were called into the principal's office, and the girl was reportedly suspended from riding the bus for three days. The family could not be reached for comment on Sunday, but other parents in Alexander think school officials overreacted.
"I completely disagree with the punishment that was given and I would do something about it if I was the parent," says Sarah Smith, an Alexander Central School graduate with a young daughter of her own.
Many parents believe, given the young ages of the students, a better approach would have been to simply sit down with the children and talk to them, "And say when you are in school it's not appropriate to kiss boys when you are in school, but find out from her exactly how it was meant and I'm sure as in this case it was a child being affectionate to another child, not anything sexual," says Smith.
Better than being suspended over pit.
Don’t they know that sex is allowed and encouraged in school but anything as mundane as a hug or a kiss is verbotten.
“A six-year-old girl was seen kissing a second grade boy”
A second grade boy is also six years old. I think the author was trying to create a different allusion.
Geeze. They would throw me in jail if I were a child these days.
I was the “Queen of the Cootie Kissers” in first grade. Life was never so good as when we ran a boy down and “locked” him under the elephant slide. :p
lol
Home school
With the article, I think the school systems are largely overgrowing what they can and can’t do.
As for the kiss... lucky guy. I’m still waiting for mine.
What is this world coming to?
Dont they know that sex is allowed and encouraged in school but anything as mundane as a hug or a kiss between a boy and girl is verbotten.
Fixed
=)
Heck, nobody ever did that to me.
Whee is all of this going to lead?
Not that it makes any difference, but many children turn six shortly after entering kindergarten these days, since the moved the day you must be five years old forward from Dec 1 to Sept 1.
That’s sad.
Those were the days....
If she kissed another girl it would have been fine.
Ewwwwww! He kissed a girl! Cooties! Cooties! Cooties!
A second grade boy could easily be 8 with the way that ages in school go now-a-days. Not that it matters...
The responsibility lies with the voters, if not why vote?
Stupid stupid stupid....
My son, who is now 6, got in trouble on the bus for almost this same kind of thing.
Apparently, he was “harassing” other girls on the bus because he wanted to hug and kiss them. These are the same girls that he attends daycare with.
This whole crap about suspending 6 year olds because they kiss or hug another kid is over the line and it infuriates me what our society has come to. I think simply telling them to stop and discussing them it’s not appropriate is enough.
That's quite advanced for a little guy. When I was that age, I never thought of kissing a girl anywhere other than on the lips.
