Six-Year-Old Suspended Over Kiss
WKBW ^ | 1-6-08 | Ginger Geoffery

The incident apparently happened last month. A six-year-old girl was seen kissing a second grade boy several times while they were riding in the school bus, and the boy was seen kissing her back. The girl's actions landed her in some hot water as her parents were called into the principal's office, and the girl was reportedly suspended from riding the bus for three days. The family could not be reached for comment on Sunday, but other parents in Alexander think school officials overreacted.

"I completely disagree with the punishment that was given and I would do something about it if I was the parent," says Sarah Smith, an Alexander Central School graduate with a young daughter of her own.

Many parents believe, given the young ages of the students, a better approach would have been to simply sit down with the children and talk to them, "And say when you are in school it's not appropriate to kiss boys when you are in school, but find out from her exactly how it was meant and I'm sure as in this case it was a child being affectionate to another child, not anything sexual," says Smith.

So if you please get on your knees
There are no bills, there are no fees
Baby, I know what your problem is
The first step of the cure is a kiss

That first KISS, its a slippery slope I tell ya!

Hate to break it to you folks but there’s a lot more than kissing going on in the lower grades. You wouldn’t believe. There are stories teachers could tell you that would curl your hair.

From the days of the one-room school house boys and girls have been trying out kissing one another just to see what it’s like.

Too bad that won’t be allowed anymore.

Every time I come to FreeRepulic, I hang my head in shame wondering if folks will ever find out...

It was many years ago.  It was a different time in America.  Kids were innocent.   They didn't deserve to be accosted.

Television didn't expose those kids to as much mayhem as it does today, not that we watched that much of it.  Sex was verboten and even the violence paled in comparison with today's offerings.

In that environment, it was even more unacceptable to do what I did.

There she was, cute as a button.  Her name was Ginger Lauber.  She had bright eyes, a constant bubbly smile and my adoration.  She was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.

We were both seven and in the first grade.  Mrs. Grace Ely was our teacher.

One day I couldn't take it any longer.  I snapped.  I ran over and kissed her on the cheek.  I was the happiest kid in the world.

The next day my brother and her brothers came over to me on the swings to explain that I shouldn't do that.  My first affair was over.

I look back and smile at the thought of my brother, my grandparents, my dad and step mom, my aunts all singing "Oh it's Ginger Lauber in the springtime..." to the tune of a song I can no longer remember.  I didn't like being kidded about liking someone.  The emotions I felt for little Miss Lauber were sweet, innocent, caring...  I really liked her.

Imagine being kicked out of school for liking someone.  I don't think little boys should be allowed to accost some little girl at will, but we are talking about six and seven year old children.  The little boys and girls will have innocent impulses to express their affection.  They may kiss the object of their affection.  And they should be talked to about it nicely.  It should be explained that little girls (or boys) shouldn't have to be kissed by against their will.

I don't know what the answer is, but I'm rather certain that expulsion for the fist kiss isn't it.  I look back on that time and smile about it now.  I can't imagine how it would have felt to have been expelled from school for it at the age of six or seven.

We've really turned into some kind of society haven't we.

Now, if she'd been kissing another little girl,...that would have been perfectly okay in today's schools.

Oh, come on!

This is ridiculous. On one hand they encourage gay sex orgies in high school locker rooms, OTOH they SUSPEND a first grader for playing and kissing?

At WORST, it warranted a phone call home to make sure the parents knew what happened to allow them to deal with it, IF THEY FELT THEY EVEN HAD TO.

It’s definitely a double standard that this little girl is being suspended when there was a big scandal about a young boy that was suspended a few years ago over an innocent kiss. People should be jumping to the little girl’s defense to counter the politically correct crowd’s growing control over society. Part of the outrage then was feminist tyranny, which has been a pressure cooker situation for more than a few decades, but this is just as bad.

My 5 year old had to stand next to a girl in the school play for Christmas. He looked miserable up there. Later, I asked him why, and he said it was because people might be laughing at him standing next to a girl. I can’t imagine if he got kissed by one.

I will tell her as soon as she comes in from playing with the boys. I think they have more to worry about her kicking them kissing them. She can outrun them & doesn’t cry when she falls like some of those sissy boys ( as she calls them lol) do...They get mad at her because she can out climb them in the trees too. Shaking my head at Sassy & wondering when the kissing is going to start.

Barney Fife: “Nip it in the bud! You got to nip it in the bud! ... Nip it! You go read any book you want on the subject of child discipline, and you’ll find that every one of ‘em is in favor of bud-nippin’... Only one way to take care of it.”

Andy Taylor: “Nip it.”

Fife: “In the bud.”

Oh you are mean. You're going to tell Sassy I said I was going to kick her?

It's the kissing that leads to most of the kicking I have found. ;^P

In the 3rd grade, our class did a play. I lucked out. I got to stand next to the girl I had a big crush on. :-)
