I am on cable and they go up every year. I also have my Internet through cable which fluctuates all the time. Since you have had both Dish and Direct TV please give some some advice.Cable is good because I have 4 TV’s and don't have to have a receiver for each. When something breaks they fix it without charge. I would love to leave them but cant convince myself it is worthwhile. I am interested in a package of TV & Internet. Also I am told the weather affects the satellite a good bit. Any help would be appreciated/

I stay away from DirecTV. I was a loyal and on-time paying customer for five years. Then we sold our house in rural Wisconsin and moved to Las Vegas. My wife called DirecTV and told them to cancel our service. In Las Vegas we hooked into cable (I love high-speed internet that they offer!)

About 18 months later we got a collection notice for 6 months of service from DirecTV. When I called them, I discovered that 6 months after we canceled our service, they turned our service back on. Bills were sent to former house in Wisconsin. When the first 3 months passed without a payment, they attempted to call our former Wisconsin phone number. So they turned off our service for a month and then in a good faith gesture, they turned it back on for another 3 months.

I pointed out that all of our receivers (They were mine.) were in storage since we canceled our service. I also pointed out that since each receiver must call in monthly, they could check their records and see that we had not used any of their services. I have called them several times and written several letters. They are still threatening to ruin my credit if I don’t pay them.

What a bunch of thieves.

A real heavy rain will cause a loss of programming. I’ve had both the big difference for me is that you can get two receivers with just one cable with Dish Network.

“I am interested in a package of TV & Internet.”

AT&T and other providers are getting into the TV/Internet business. They partner with Yahoo and Dish Network.

Extremely bad weather will corrupt or knock out the signal, but it doesn’t happen too often. Strangely, it happened to me ten minutes after booting up my HD DVR (installer put the dish up in a big storm, so I tipped him $20 for the effort). It really isn’t much of a problem.

If you’re looking for TV, internet (and even phone) bundled, look for the AT&T option in your area. They’re slow to get to mine, so I hitched up for another two years of DirecTV and kept my Comcast internet.

Also I am told the weather affects the satellite a good bit.

Heavy thunderstorms will knock out satellite reception. On the flip side, have been through several tropical storms without losing reception for even a moment. Once lost reception because the tropical storm winds kinked the satellite cable.

This house has satellite HD tv and cable internet access. Looking to switch over to FIOS internet shortly.
