Michigan Crowd Boos McCain on Illegal Immigration By Pete Winn CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer January 14, 2008

Detroit (CNSNews.com) - Sen. John McCain of Arizona, winner of last Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, drew cheers and jeers from an audience of over 500 conservative activists in Michigan over the weekend.

Just days ahead of the Michigan primary, McCain was one of three Republican presidential hopefuls, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Duncan Hunter of California, to visit the Americans for Prosperity Summit held Saturday in the Detroit suburb of Livonia.

McCain was alternately cheered and jeered by the vocal, pro-growth, "limit-the-government" activist crowd. He was cheered for his military service and for his pledges to maintain a strong defense, to cut taxes and to veto earmarks, but he was booed for his stances on immigration and the environment.

McCain's signature lines such as, "We need to send Washington a message: 'No earmarks -- not 10,000, not one. Zero!" drew thunderous applause, McCain's attempt to bring "a little straight talk" about Michigan's flagging economy seemed to fall flat.

Globalism, he told the audience, is not going away. "Some jobs that have left Michigan aren't coming back, and the answer is not to create false hopes that we can bring back lost jobs -- but to create new ones," McCain said, to a stony silence.

McCain, who engaged the audience in a lengthy Q&A period, drew howls of protest and boos when he expressed support for allowing most illegal aliens to stay in the United States and when he opposed against any form of protectionism.

I’m sure the MSM will portray this as McCain defying those nasty old Republicans to come into the 21st century where all people are brothers and sisters and who cares about borders blah blah blah.

Ah, yes, it will be something like, “McCain brings breath of fresh air to GOP.”

It will be interesting to see if Michigan Democrats vote for McCain to stop Romney, or Romney to stop McCain.

One of the Keating 5, supporter of amnesty, sponser of the McCain Feingold bill that squashes free speech before elections.
McCain is a RINO.
Thanks for your military service and hopefully you’ll either stay a senator or go home to Arizona a loser.

I really doubt that because the only candidate running for the nomination who has done anything to secure our borders is marginalized and disregarded. He got an honorable mention in this article, but I suppose what he said wasn’t important as we are only treated to the verbal jewels McCain and Romney regurgitated.

Sorry but don’t always come back with HUNTER who looks out of the race.
But is that a biased way to undermine the FRED surge.
The question is, are you a real HUNTER supporter, really concerned by the future of USA or a lunatic whining demrat

The lying weasel said last spring after the butt-kicking by voters on “immigration reform” that he’d “heard the message loud and clear” and would accede to the wishes of his consitutents.

You can count on McCain signing a 15 to 20 million-visa Amnesty if he wins.

Sorry to disagree, but even though Hunter is a good man and a fine conservative, he had zero charisma. I watched him in enough interviews to decide that this was his problem. And if you ever heard his campaign press manager being interviewed it was ten times worse, because the guy was inarticulate and almost embarrassing. There was no plot, he was/is just missing that essential “something”, and i don;t think it matters which issue he chose to champion.

As well he should. I'd boo him right off the platform if he were talking that nonsense in front of me! Unemployment in Michigan is quite high compared to the rest of the nation. These people are not happy that their jobs are being undercut by illegals while those that are still employed subsidize those very same illegals and their families through higher taxes and health insurance costs.

Now I realize that there are other factors that contribute to Michigan's high unemployment rate such as the UAW mentality and extremely high taxes, but illegals are also a part of the equation.

I read the whole article. Apparently, Duncan Hunter was there but I guess he didn't have anything to say.

Gee, what a surprise. </sarcasm>

There's a brief mention that Huckabee and Paul didn't attend but Fred's name doesn't appear in the article at all.

The post made sense to me. I didn’t undermine anything, I answered your question. Don’t pretend to be seriously asking questions, when it is nothing more that your mealy-mouthed sophistry.

I won’t even broach the name calling and personal attacks by you because quite frankly they aren’t worth my time. The truth is, you can’t handle the truth.
