How do you go from supporting Fred Thompson to Huckabee? I don’t get it.

Makes no sense if you are a real conservative.

“How do you go from supporting Fred Thompson to Huckabee? I don’t get it.”

The only way to do that is if you start out as a fake.

The same exact way RTL endorsed Fred.... Poll driven ethics.

The irony is delicious.

Like some of the “all or nothing” crown here, some folks operate the same way when it comes to religion/one issue and fail to take the long view.

I did. Fred was the first campaign I ever donated money to. But, after seeing him need to actually ask for his own applause at one of his first "rallies" and hoping upon hope - week after week - that he would liven up, I realized that he could not win in the general election. I then decided to go for Mike Huckabee because of those who can actually win in the general election (McKennedy, Abortiani, and Huck), Huck is the most conservative.

Perhaps he was reading the Bible while dropping acid and watching The Andy Griffith Show?

Here is your answer as to how Mr. Stemberger could go from Thompson to Huckabee:

"Stemberger, who also heads the state’s anti-gay marriage initiative petition movement, is also the president of the Florida Family Policy Counsel, associated with James Dobson’s Focus on the Family."

Looks like Mr. Stemberger wants to keep his lucrative relationship with Mr. Dobson's "Family". That relationship may not have been as cozy with Stemberger in the Thompson camp and Dobson, et al, in the Huckabee camp...especially after the spanking Thompson gave Huckabee at the SC debate.

It's the 'Christian' angle. He's working for the 'Values Voters', and they think since Huckabee is a preacher, he must be the most Christian in the race.

>>”How do you go from supporting Fred Thompson to Huckabee? I don’t get it.”<<

Ah, perhaps because he wants his endorsement to be relevant? Endorsing someone who’s not going anywhere is a waste of an endorsement. I’m sure that hurts, but it’s probably pretty close to the truth of the matter.

And of the candidates left standing, Huckabee is clearly the best choice for pro-life matters, so his switch makes perfect sense. It’s only when you’re wearing “Nobody but Thompson” glasses, that simple things like this are hard to see.

...Stemberger, who also heads the state’s anti-gay marriage initiative petition movement...

I also oppose gay marriage (and attendant rights/privileges) but I really worry about bloc voting based on either too much religiosity - or none at all.

Particularly when erstwhile 'conservatives' allow it to trump a record of conservative vales and the candidate's conservative record.
