Immigrant advocates declared victory this week in a long-standing battle over a day labor site in Spring, saying anti-illegal immigrant protestors failed to turn up on Saturday for the first time in weeks.
Franklin Moore, director of the Cypress Creek Interfaith Coalition for Economic Development, which has led the push for the day labor site, issued a statement saying U.S. Border Watch leader Curtis Collier and his supporters were "forced off of the streets of Spring."
"We'll be out there as long as it takes to ensure that Border Watch doesn't return," Moore said in the statement. "The day laborers are hardworking men who contribute a lot to the community. They should not be harassed or intimidated."
The two groups have held simultaneous protests at the Spring gas station, at 16350 Stuebner Airline Road, for weeks. Collier said on Monday that he delivered a letter to Moore on Saturday that said he would be at a different day labor site.
"If they think they've won, that's good," Collier said. "We're still in the fight there. They haven't won anything; they just think they have."
Collier said some members went to a site on Gessner Road, while others were "undercover," at another site he could not disclose, acting as if they wanted to hire day laborers and jotting down license plates of suspected employers.
Moore's statement called the Collier's letter "a transparent effort to save face."
The day laborer supporters plan to return on Saturday at 8 a.m. Collier said he won't be in attendance then, either, because he plans to go "undercover" again.

I want the “right” as an American citizen to protest in the streets of Mexico but I would be locked up as a criminal even if I enter that country LEGALLY.
End this double standard and deport the scab labor.
Westpark in SW Houston is another area where day laborers congregate waiting for hire. There are probably many such areas.

Translation: “We want our cheap labor, no matter how it keeps them ignorant and poverty-stricken.”
Agree with yer post but I like to work behind the scenes, effectively, quietly, without harassment, and have personally been responsible for a few raids on those that employ, house, transport or render physical or fiscal aid to illegals in any form.... The few public protests I have seen around here has been played by the national and local MSM as hate group activity, members of the KKK, racism etc ....you know the script the MSM uses I am sure if ya have done the public protest. I just don’t want to be fodder for their film at 11 crap.
Give em their corner and sidewalk for now as ya work on those that leave sugar for these ants. Take their shelter, their money, their food, their families security, health care and educational opportunities, their transportation, their churches and city goobermint vatos that provide sanctuary and their ability to operate here.
To hell with Peon and OTM illegal pandering polidiots and their handlers.........go after em every day . Even if ya only have a few minutes. Even if you just pull up to Home Depot Day worker outlets and take a picture of em with your cell phone and drive away. Make em worry.
I know of some who wear windbreakers that have the letters I.C.E. in very large yellow letters on the back and each sleeve.....below it is a fictional company name in very small script hard to read 1/4 inch letters to keep from being busted for impersonating a FLEA. Make up yer own little fine line hard to read logo ....Illegal Countermeasures Experiment.....International Cockroach Extermination.......Indiana Construction Equipment etc etc ...

My point being that there are people illegally in this country who are publicly protesting whereas in Mexico foreigners are not permitted to speak out. Even when they enter the country LEGALLY.
And this country would not come to my defense for my INALIENABLE GOD GIVEN RIGHT of protest.
As to those kinds of jackets, yes I’ve even seen pictures of the RIAA wearing dark blue with yellow letters on their back when they raid flea markets and confiscate (in absence of a court order) merchandise from “bootleggers”.

The blue windbreakers have an effect........ I have seen the back door of restaurant’s fly open and cars and trucks screaming out of the lots when I just go in for a burger.....

I’ve worked in Houston for over 26 years now. The first 23 downtown, the next 3 on the west side, now in the southwest side.
The site mentioned in the article and the Westpark Drive area are notorious for this. Also Canal street, which is in a Mexican neiborhood.
Everyone knows where the illegals are, yet law enforcement does nothing.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 people in Harris County, where Houston is located, is illegal. That equates to 400,000.
They really are not hard to find. I do not believe the arguement that you can’t send them all back. If you started hauling away just a few at a time to start, the rest would catch on and leave.

U.S. Border Watch, along with the San Antonio chapter of the American Freedom riders, will begin day labor watch operations January 19, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. Our mission is to bring to light the intentions of the city of San Antonio to fund day labor sites for day laborers, many of whom are here illegally. These sites will be taxpayer funded and will serve as a magnet for more illegal immigrants, just as they have in other communities. In our view, this puts the city in the position of aiding and abetting illegal activity.
