First, the Governor
Second, every elected official in the state
Third, every state commission

New politicians, drain the swamp of liberalism
pay down the debt
build a reserve

Somehow I think we’d survive.

I admit that I didn’t believe the first reports that the California Energy Commission is seriously considering a law to require homeowners to install a thermostat that can be adjusted by government bureaucrats.

So, I wonder how they propose to control plug-in heating devices that people will begin using enmass if this lame-brained scheme does go into effect? Yes, they might be able to set what temp my thermostat is set at, but they cannot control whether I am using electric heating or cooling appliances. Or, can they?

All you have to do to get the A/C turned back on is to place a lamp that uses an old fashioned light bulb directly under the thermostat to warm it up some.

Why don’t they make a test run by turning off the heat and lights in every government building especially the capitol. Dittos to teachers and prison guards break rooms...

But wasn’t that the purpose of Orwell’s vision of Big Brother: to “help” individuals lead “better” and more “secure” lives?

Poll 100 people and ask them if "Orwellian" or "Machiavellian" is a brand of designer jeans.

People don't really know what "Big Brother" refers to anymore, much less why things like totalitarian communism would be bad in their day-to-day lives.

From what I heard on KSFO last night, there were enough phone calls and emails rec’d that they are no longer going to consider this for now.

Actually, the dystopia the thermostat plan bring to mind isn't Orwell's 1984, but the Terry Giliam movie Brazil in which Air-Conditioning Repairman is a subversive (and somewhat swashbuckling) hero.

The environazis got legislation passed in Kalifornia that made the power companies sell their land holdings and hydroelectric production facilities. Now, the new owners, who have to pay down their new debt, can charge more for the power produced than ever charged before.

Too bad more consumers don’t realize this simple truth.

How much power does a self-cleaning oven use?

800 degrees for 3+ hours to “clean” your oven.
I don’t think they even sell a stove anymore that isn’t “self-cleaning”. I think mine has that feature, but I clean it the old fashioned way. Elbow grease.
