Be sure to punish converts -- that'll really help our big conservative tent.

When Huckabee renounces his attacks on the GOP candidate for Senate in 2004, for being anti-amnesty and for drinking a different kind of "Jesus juice" than Mike drinks, then I'll welcome him.

I'm not that harsh. When he apologizes for undermining state Senator Mr. Holt and the rest of the AR GOP I'll fogive him.

Until then I am right to blame Huck for guaranteeing a Democrat Senate.

Besides, until he explains his change in theology I'll think the "Christian leader" is just pandering...

The Secure America Plan (of Mike Huckabee)
A 9-Point Strategy for Immigration Enforcement and Border Security

Overview: Implement a broad-based strategy that commits the resources of the federal government to the enforcement of our immigration laws and results in the attrition of the illegal immigrant population.

1. Build the Fence
Ensure that an interlocking surveillance camera system is installed along the border by July 1, 2010.
Ensure that the border fence construction is completed by July 1, 2010.

2. Increase Border Patrol
Increase the number of border patrol agents.
Fully support all law enforcement personnel tasked with enforcing immigration law.

3. Prevent Amnesty
Policies that promote or tolerate amnesty will be rejected.
Propose to provide all illegal immigrants a 120-day window to register with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and leave the country. Those who register and return to their home country will face no penalty if they later apply to immigrate or visit; those who do not return home will be, when caught, barred from future reentry for a period of 10 years.
This is not a “touchback” provision. Those who leave this country and apply to return from their home country would go to the back of the line.

4. Enforce the Law on Employers
Employment is the chief draw for most illegal immigrants and denying them jobs is the centerpiece of an attrition strategy.
Impose steep fines and penalties on employers that violate the law.
Institute a universal, mandatory citizenship verification system as part of the normal hiring process.
Prevent the IRS and the Social Security Administration from accepting fraudulent Social Security numbers or numbers that don’t match the employees’ names.*

5. Establish an Economic Border
Move toward passage of the FairTax.
The FairTax provides an extra layer of security by creating an economic disincentive to immigrate to the U.S. illegally.

6. Empower Local Authorities
Promote better cooperation on enforcement by supporting legislative measures such as the CLEAR Act, which aims to systematize the relationship between local law and federal immigration officials.
Encourage immigration-law training for police. Local authorities must be provided the tools, training, and funding they need so local police can turn illegal immigrants over to the federal authorities.

7. Ensure Document Security
End exemptions for Mexicans and Canadians to the US-VISIT program, which tracks the arrival and departure of foreign visitors. Since these countries account for the vast majority of foreigners coming here (85 percent), such a policy clearly violates Congress’ intent in mandating this check-in/check-out system.
Reject Mexico’s “matricula consular” card, which functions as an illegal-immigrant identification card.

8. Discourage Dual Citizenship
Inform foreign governments when their former citizens become naturalized U.S. citizens.
Impose civil and/or criminal penalties on American citizens who illegitimately use their dual status (e.g., using a foreign passport, voting in elections in both a foreign country and the U.S.).

9. Modernize the Process of Legal Immigration
Eliminate the visa lottery system and the admission category for adult brothers and sisters of U.S. citizens.
Increase visas for highly-skilled and highly-educated applicants.
Expedite processing for those who serve honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Improve our immigration process so that those patiently and responsibly seeking to come here legally will not have to wait decades to share in the American dream. Governor Huckabee has always been grateful to live in a country that people are trying to break into, rather than break out of.

*This policy will be drafted to comply with the final federal court decisions on this issue.

Note: This plan is partially modeled on a proposal by Mark Krikorian, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies. (”Re: Immigration: Ten Points for a Successful Presidential Candidate,” National Review, May 23, 2005.)

I believe that Fred is in just to help McCain. McCain needs SC to go any further. Without Fred, Huck wins going away. Fred never had a chance.

He is not smart enough for President, I think even he knows it. Glib talk will only get you so far, then people will desert the flimflam man in a heartbeat.

Did you hear what he said today about changing the US Constitution? Pure goofball on a short stick.

Fred Thompson is clearly better on the issue of illegal immigration than Huckabee. Actually he’s clearly better on ever issue than Huckabee. Conservatives don’t want a socialist theocracy which is Huckabee’s dream.

Your theory is all wrong. No one knew or cared about Huck before Iowa. If Fred jumped in the race after Iowa, you might have a point. But Fred is in this for Fred, make no mistake. And it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Fred chose not to endorse anyone if he drops out.

If he does endorse someone, I think it will be Romney- with a few choice words of wisdom for him.

Your candidate seems to give new meaning to the phrase flip-flop:

Yesterday he wanted no visas granted to people who are coming from terrorist countries. Today he changed that to- let’s review the immigration laws.

Now you and all your Huckabee supporters better pay very close attention to this. It is but ONE example where he has changed his mind after he’s been called on a statement he’s made. It appears that he makes blanket statements- like the one yesterday about amending the consitution- and the instant he’s asked to clarify- he turns it around or changes his rhetoric. This is NOT someone who can be trusted to make decisions calling for calm, steady deliberation.

http://youdecide08.foxnews.com/2008/01/15/mike-huckabee-proposes-visa-hiatus-for-immigrants-from-state-sponsors-of-terrorism/

Mike Huckabee on Tuesday called for a halt on visas for immigrants who come from countries that sponsor or harbor terrorists, potentially energizing the debate over immigration as Republican candidates head to South Carolina for the Jan. 19 primary.

“These are folks who have overstayed their welcome. Every one of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 came here legally. Our government welcomed them in,” Huckabee said in Rock Hill, S.C., shortly after flying from Michigan, which held its primary Tuesday.

“Well there’s a couple of things that we’re going to do differently. I say we ought to put a hiatus on people who come here… if they come from countries that sponsor and harbor terrorists. Let’s say until you get your act in order and we get our act in order we’re not going to just let you keep coming and threaten the future and safety of America,” Huckabee said.

TRAVELERS REST, South Carolina (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee backed away Wednesday from earlier comments that immigration should be suspended from countries that sponsor or harbor terrorists.
Trying to sharpen his rhetoric on illegal immigration, Huckabee called for the hiatus upon arriving Tuesday in South Carolina. In a state where the issue inflames
Republican voters, Huckabee was drawing a contrast with rival John McCain, who backs a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants.
But on Wednesday, Huckabee _ who is in a contentious race for the Republican presidential nomination _ said that instead of suspending immigration, he wants to review immigration policies.
“I think we just need to do a more thorough job of ensuring that when people come here, and they come from nations that the State Department has designated as terrorist nations, that we are diligent in background searches,” Huckabee told reporters.

Huckabee learned from the best, his Arkansas mentor and role model, Bill Clinton. Both are master liars and manipulators.

And, from the same town to boot!

03/08/07 Thompson said one reason he is hesitant about running is his longtime friendship with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Thompson was one of only four Republican senators to endorse McCain’s 2000 presidential campaign and was an important ally in McCain’s effort to pass campaign-finance reform in 2002.

Yes, in many ways he is. But in some ways he’s even worse, because he’s USING- or attempting to use- Christian conservatives, and I find that shabby and frankly, scary.

Did you hear what he said today about changing the US Constitution?

Yes, and considering what he said and meant in context, I wholly agree with it. The Consitution is to reflect universal truth and is amendable for just that purpose.

The principle bears upon occasions when it becomes necessary to amend the Consitution (not implied to be a rule for reading all sorts of theology into it or creating unnecessary amendments).

Huckabee's context thereby is proper, as he used that principle regarding our declared, Creator endowed Right to Life and to the fundamental human relationship and building block of civilization, marriage.

Way to tell it as it is, Gov. Huckabee.
