It is ... the wussification of our thin skinned politically correct society has tempered humor to the point of being useless.
For the record, I still think the Richard Pryor written script for “Blazing Saddles” to be one of the funniest ever.

Excellent slapstick comedy. There's no way you could ever produce a movie like that now. I don't even know if you can purchase the original format now? Whenever I see it on television is so chopped up and wussified that it's almost unwatchable... almost. ;-)
