I recall reading somewhere that an earlier expedition was supposed to have made it to the summit but died on the return trip.

George Leigh Mallory is thought by some to have reached the summit. His body was recently discovered but his journal either was not found, or did not confirm that he had succeeded. If you google him, you discover some interesting things.

Are you suggesting HRC should have been named after George Leigh Mallory. Hmmm. She would be Mallory Rodham Clinton. I kind of like it.

There have been several searches of the area around where George Mallory’s body was located in an attempt to find either his diary or his camera, which would hopefully have the evidence they need to settle the argument one way or the other.
