So they give me $300 of my money this year and take $1000 next year.

The rebates would likely be limited to individuals with incomes of $85,000 or less
I guess I won't be getting a new muffler this time, unless some FReeperette would like to join me in a retroactive marriage of convenience that would be annulled once the check clears.

“and higher unemployment benefits.”
I thought unemployment was very low. So low that we need millions of undocumented workers who’ll work for below minimum wage to find enough people to take the jobs (and there are millions who are willing to travel to work for below minimum wage with no benefits).

"Putting money into the hands of households and firms that would spend it in the near term" is a priority, he said. In the case of households, are they really going to spend it or are they just going to use the refunds to pay credit cards down?

I forgot to mention this...remember when the Congress critters proposed $100.00 in gasoline rebates (
link). While the idea of a tax refund is quite nice, it's also insulting and signals that the Federals have far too much taxpayer money to begin with.

All the talk of rescue efforts failed to soothe Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrials plunged 306.95 points, I guess not since wages are down, homebuilding down, people and companies in debt, jobs disappearing and gas and food prices up. Something ugly comes our way.

United for urgent action, the White House and Congress raced toward emergency steps Thursday to rescue the national economy from a possible recession,Idiots running to stick their finger in the dike.

it won’t make up for what we’ve lost in the stock market or from lost pensions due to a company bankruptcy.....it won’t even pay for the huge oil run up.....

It's my friggin' money to begin with. They never should have taken it to begin with. Nice to get a tiny percent back.
I'll believe it when it's in the bank.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke endorsed the idea of putting money into the hands of those who would spend it quickly and boost the flagging economy. Right. Let's just turn the printing presses on and our problems will be gone. If it works in Zimbabwe it has to work here.

Pure socialism, wealth redistribution, just like “free healthcare”. They’ve taken my money and now they are going to give it to those they deem worthy.
