Bobby Fisher the Chess Player died decades ago.
Bobby Fisher the nut job died today.
They're together now.

There is a significant error in his book “Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess”...not just a typo, but one where he overlooked a move that could have checkmated him! LOL.

I've got to wonder about his eternal destiny.

I hope he finds peace in the hereafter that he could never embrace here.

Maybe God called him in his last moments to round out Heaven’s chess team.

His game against Spassky may have been rigged. The Soviets wanted to turn Fischer to use him against the U.S. for propaganda purposes, but to make him valuable they needed to make him world champion, first.

When all is said and done, each of us is left trusting in the mercy of God.
It’s by grace that we’re saved.
And by grace we make the heavenly chess team... :>)

The line between genius and insanity is extremely thin. He walked both sides of the line.

Well, that worked out as well as the 1980 Olympic hockey team. The Soviets should have stuck with rigging basketball games.

After reading your statements, was ‘ole Booby one of them self-hating Jews? If so, RIP is too nice a thing to say about this evil nutcase. RIH (Rot in Hell) seems more appropiate.

Besides being one of the greatest chess players ever to live, he was obviously troubled, as many have already pointed out. The man had mental problems, and you hope he's damned to hell?
Sometimes I'm saddened by the level of pure, unadulterated hate that shows up on this board for no good reason at all. It's troubling.

“...one finds it impossible to discuss his life without bringing up his tirades.”
You’re right. So I would prefer just to talk about his chess.

The only time I watched chess on TV, with the big board behind the host, disecting all the moves! Hosted by Shelby Lyman, on PBS, iirc. Shelby Lyman, a New York chess master and professor (iirc), enjoyed a brief spat of "mailersque" Manhattan celebrity, eating at Elaine's and being feted at the most fashionable watering holes, being recognized by cab drivers.
He was Marv Albert to Fischer's Willis Reed.
BTW, in the day, Iceland had more chess grandmasters per capita than any other country in world, including Russia or Israel.

I know exactly what you mean. I think that the relative anonymity of being online, safely behind a keyboard and a monitor, leads some people to view themselves as invulnerable and beyond the reach of anyone who might take umbrage at insults, offensive phrases, outrageous behavior, etc., after all, we don't really know who anybody is beyond what we call ourselves, right?
Now go f' yourself and have a nice f'in day.
ROTFLMAO -- just kidding FRiend!!!
Seriously, enjoy your weekend, you make good points. ;)

I assure you I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Did you cry when the Ayatolla died?
Following your logic, I suppose we should not wish anything bad on someone who wanted to kill US Jews and wished all US citizens ill-will. This guy even went further than most other leftist scum and renounced his citizenship and stated that we deserved 9/11.
