REYKJAVIK, Iceland ( — Bobby Fischer, the brilliant, troubled former chess champion, has died, a spokesman said Friday. He was 64.
Fischer spokesman Gardar Sverrisson said Fischer died in a Reykjavik hospital on Thursday. There was no immediate word on cause of death.
U.S.-born Fischer, a fierce critic of his homeland who renounced his U.S. citizenship, moved to Iceland in 2005.
He was world famous for defeating the Soviet Union's Boris Spassky in 1972.
The Chicago-born, Brooklyn, N.Y.-reared Fischer was wanted in the United States for playing a 1992 rematch against Cold War rival Spassky in Yugoslavia in defiance of international sanctions.

What is it with American hating Americans, and Jew hating Jews?
This is the last public statement out of him:
Regarding 9/11 This is all wonderful news.” Fischer stated
“What goes around comes around even for the United States,” and said that if the U.S. fails to change its foreign policy, it “has to be destroyed.”
After calling for President Bush’s death, Fischer also stated he hoped that a Seven Days in May-type military coup d’ etat would take over power in the U.S. and then execute “hundreds of thousands of American Jewish leaders”, “arrest all the Jews” and “close all synagogues”.
Now if that is not a cast iron kook, then nothing is.

He revoked his American citizenship, called for the death of President Bush, called for the destruction of America, the murder of most of the Jews, and he died in his chosen country. - Iceland.

While it’s wrong to speak ill of the dead, in this case one finds it impossible to discuss his life without bringing up his tirades.

Bobby Fischer put Iceland on the map, and made it a major tourist resort.

I used the term “our weirdo” because that was the mindset of this country in 1972. I couldn’t stand the clown then but people would have cheered a tiddly winks player if he could have beaten a Soviet at the time.

I heard some radio interviews he did in the Philippines a few years back. The guy was as schizo as they come. Given proper medication, he may have been able to live a more normal life.

He was a real loony. Great chess player, though. As an American of Jewish heritage, I say good riddence. As a chess player, I say I hope you have finally found peace of mind, Mr. Fischer.

There is a significant error in his book “Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess”...not just a typo, but one where he overlooked a move that could have checkmated him! LOL.

I hope he finds peace in the hereafter that he could never embrace here.
Maybe God called him in his last moments to round out Heaven’s chess team.
His game against Spassky may have been rigged. The Soviets wanted to turn Fischer to use him against the U.S. for propaganda purposes, but to make him valuable they needed to make him world champion, first.
When all is said and done, each of us is left trusting in the mercy of God.
It’s by grace that we’re saved.
And by grace we make the heavenly chess team... :>)
