Mailed Plastic Fetuses Offend Recipients

RACINE, Wis. -- An anti-abortion group in Racine is under fire after mailing plastic fetuses to 44,000 people.

The mailing also included an informational letter and a fundraising envelope, WISN-TV in Milwaukee reported.

Mystical Listrom said she was not happy when she opened a Wisconsin Right to Life letter accompanied by a plastic fetus.

"It's my right to choose to do what I want with my body. I shouldn't have people telling me what I can and can't do with my body," Listrom said.

Her neighbor, Glenda Pollock, got the same package.

"If they had sent a letter explaining why they think abortion should not be allowed, I wouldn't have a problem with that. It was the plastic fetus that bothered me," Pollock said.

"We thought it would be appropriate to send out some information to get people talking about the subject," said Dave Obernberger of Wisconsin Right To Life

Dave and Bonnie Obernberger, of the Racine County chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life, said the plastic figure represents an 11- or 12-week fetus.

They sent it out this week to mark the 35-year anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

"I pray that they'll look at it a little more than being offended by it, but being educated by it," Dave Obernberger said.

The Obernbergers said they have already gotten some response, and they expect more.

Pollock wasted no time having her voice heard. She brought the package to the post office and mailed it back.

"I had to pay to have it returned because it was a non-profit mailing, which I was happy to pay. It was just over $1 and it was well worth it," Pollock said.

Pollock filed a complaint with the U.S. Postal Service; however, it doesn't appear to be illegal.

Postal officials said it doesn't fit their standards of obscene or lewd, but they said people can fill out a form that would prevent them from getting mail from Wisconsin Right to Life in the future.

The mailers were sent to every home in Racine and to some of the surrounding suburbs.

The real truth is they don't want to have to face exactly what they are destroying, it's a lot easier to kill someone when you don't see them as human.

To quote some idiot on tv... "It's not abouuuuttt YOUUUUUU!!!

I’m guessing that the enclosed information said something like, “this is the size and likeness of an 8 week old fetus.” I have the precious feet which I wear occasionally. I think I’ll get them out and polish them for the anniversary.

Do you know why the plastic fetus’ bothered them? Because they look just like babies. Do you know why they look like babies?

If you look at the picture in the article it is similar to this doll. It's a baby doll, not some gross thing.

Right. How about if she goes downtown, hangs out on a street corner dressed like a $5-a-trick hooker, and tries to argue the case that she has an inalienable right to choose what to do with her body?

Of course I don’t know, but my guess is Mystical has put a child or two of her own down the sink. The doll probably hit a chord.

What Mystical Listrom doesn't want to face is that inside the body of a pregnant woman is the body of another human being. That human being's life is snuffed out during an abortion. The issue is not what a woman does with her body, it's what she does with her baby.

Mystical sweetie, we don't give a damn what you do with "your body" it's your baby's body we are concerned about. You don't have a moral right to kill anyone, including your own child.

Another prime example of how the Pro Lifers keep making mistakes and thereby lessening, not increasing, the chance for legislative goals they desire.

You don’t gain support by offending, nor threatening, let alone attacking, those you want to influence.

To me, this was an attack, on the wrong target, for the wrong reasons.

My favorite.......

“... I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself.

And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”

Mother Teresa, from her speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, 1994

If it’s a tiny doll of a healthy fetus as in post #7, rather than some blood-streaked baby-impaled-on-a-coathanger thing, is that still offensive?

Pollack mailed the plastic doll back. She was more thoughtful with the plastic representation than she is for the real thing.

Sad.
