On the Spot (CNSNews.com) - Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) told Cybercast News Service Thursday that he does not consider legislation passed last Saturday by the Iraqi Parliament, which permits former members of Saddam's Ba'ath Party to reclaim government jobs, a sign of political progress. "The only thing that is progress is to get the hell out of there," said Rangel. (Hear Audio)
The legislation, which allows low-ranking Ba'athist Sunnis to participate in the new Shia-controlled government, has been cited by both Democrats and Republicans as an important benchmark of political reconciliation within Iraq.
The U.S. Congress passed legislation in May 2007 that lists "enacting and implementing legislation on de-Ba'athification" as the third of 18 benchmarks for success in Iraq. Rangel voted in favor of that legislation.
In his view, however, there is no possibility of any success in Iraq. In reference to the continuing decline in U.S. casualties in the Iraq war, Rangel said: "The fact that less people are dying in an immoral war? How could you call that progress? No. It's sad." (Hear Audio)
"And to those people who think we are moving towards success, just go to a couple of hearings and they will find out," he said. "Unless there is a moral reason to be there, you cannot have any success because less people are dying."

Well I’ll say one thing for Rangel, I think this is some kind of a record for being behind the curve. Larry Elder was just talking about the anti-war groups and that they have basicly folded shop. Leftist politicos have jumped ship, they can’t get their agenda through Congress. Bush isn’t buying it and the requisite dollars to carry on aren’t there.
And now Rangel has deemed this the time to be the voice of clarity. At least he’s been consistant over his 40 yeas, without exception clueless as roadkill.
