I'm puzzled, too. I don't argue with him about it. For one thing, he's 79 years old and served two tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea, so he's more than earned my respect. For another, he lost most of his hearing sleeping next to artillery during the Tet Offensive, so it's very difficult communicating with him.
I think he is a product of a lifetime of being "informed" by the DBM. We used to take solace in knowing that his wife, my mother-in-law, would cancel his vote out with hers, but she passed away last Christmas.
