Per the Mormon Church, Mormons make up about 7.5% of Nevada's population. But according to the entrance polls so far, a whopping 25% of those who participated in the state's GOP caucuses are Mormons.
And 94% of those people went with Romney.

This seems to be the year of identity politics, doesn’t it.

And people say evangelicals are monolithic. It’s pathetic that 94% of mormons vote for flip.

So do the math. Throw out the 25 percent, representing the entire Mormon vote. Mitt still cleans house almost 2 to 1 without a single Mormon vote.
What exactly is your point?

Good for Mitt. The problem he’s gonna have if he’s the nominee, is that the media will paint him as some kind of religious nut.
Sorry, but that’s the way it will be. The big nets and NYTs will show Romney as the potential instrument for a cult who wants to take over America.
That’s the way liberals work.

So, statistically speaking, over a third of the people who are not Mormon also supported Romney and had zero mormons turned out to vote, he would have still won overwhelmingly.
What's your point?

My only point is the pointy headed mormons all sticking with flip just because he is mormon. There is no other explanation for 94% of any group to support someone based on anything but identity politics

We went to our caucus this morning and in our precinct, Romney won by a landslide.
Duncan Hunter came in second. My husband spoke for him (he’s a much better public speaker than I am...I sound like a dufus in extemporaneous speaking).
It was a different kind of experience.
To: bshomoic
Gee, that’s a shocker! And I thought Romney was focusing on Nevada because he was a big Wayne Newton fan.

Why is religious bias okay when it helps Romney?Whats wrong with Mormons voting for one of their own? He's a good man and they're proud of him. I'm not a Mormon and Fred is my #1 choice but sheesh get a grip.
