'60 Minutes' Preempted This Sunday for Global Warming Hysteria
NewsBusters ^ | January 19, 2008 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 01/19/2008 7:43:43 PM PST by CedarDave

Fortunately, most people will likely be watching the Giants-Packers game Sunday evening, and will therefore miss the one-sided hysteria.

However, for those that mysteriously don't switch channels after the Chargers-Patriots game, CBS will offer a special about global warming this Sunday instead of "60 Minutes."

How marvelous.

The CBS News website hysterically described this installment of "The Age of Warming":

Nowhere is the evidence of global warming as striking than near the earth's poles. CBS News correspondent Scott Pelley's report brings him to the top and the bottom of the world, where scientists point out the effects of the warming trend. He also speaks to NASA's top scientist studying climate, who says the Bush administration has restricted what he can say about global warming.

This teaser raises many important questions. For instance, will even one of the over 400 scientists that don't believe man is responsible for global warming be interviewed by Pelley? Or, will he exclusively talk to folks that are involved in advancing this yet unproven theory?

Will any of the scientific studies concerning historical ice levels in the Arctic and the Antarctic be sited, or just the satellite data for the past thirty years?

Assuming the top NASA scientist Pelley will be speaking to is the controversial head of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies James Hansen, will he be asked about his connection to George Soros? Or that the GISS predicted an ice age back in 1971? Or that Hansen's organization made a huge error in calculating temperatures this decade that was uncovered by Climate Audit's Stephen McIntyre?

~~snip~~

Or, will this installment be exclusively filled with one-sided information on this controversial subject with not one shred of balance for the viewer?

Yes, sadly, these were all rhetorical questions.

Watched the first video and liked his idea of column and rows. However, the elephant in the kitchen is not whether we take action or not. After all, this isn't about raising the levee a couple of feet to prevent the flood; we know that if we keep raising it enough it will stop the flood. Then the question is how much we raise it and at what cost. Risk management takes effect here, cost benefit and all that.

With us taking action against global warming, its really not the same. Taking action is just as likely, or more than likely, to have no effect on global warming except for lowering the money in our pocketbooks. Now throw in the fact that third world countries are at best giving only lip service to global warming or at worst building more coal fired power plants to spew even more CO2 and any action we would take would not help a bit to contain global warming.

For me its a triple whammy NOT to take action. First, and this will become more apparent in the next few years if not earlier, human caused CO2 increases are not having an effect on climate; CO2 is a lagging indicator of warming, not a leading indicator. And as a greenhouse gas, it is a minor, very minor player.

Second, if you accept that CO2 is all the things I say it isn't, what action do you take? Do we humans believe the cork can be put back in the bottle? How do we reverse human progress, what sort of measurements can you make that will demonstrate that whatever action we take will make any difference no matter how extensive or expensive? Ban all CO2 sources? Reduce them by 50, 60, 80%? What do we do? You say we must do something!! But what? And what are the consequences of taking such action? What is the likelihood of being successful or the cost given other demands for our resources? Carbon credits are a scam, carbon sequestration may not be practicable, etc. So what do we do?

Finally, and my third reason for not taking action, is why should we deprive ourselves of living and enjoying our current lifestyle when the rest of the world is giving only lip service to the problem? Are we so guilt ridden that we must now sacrifice what we have gained so that other countries can continue to ignore international norms and go on their merry way irrespective of the consequences? The bleeding heart libs would say yes and make us sacrifice for their sense of guilt. I say not, especially given that the premise of the entire global warming scenario is incorrect.

Now, as regards the YouTube scientist, I suggest you take a look at this four-part presentation by Dr. Carter from Australia. He goes over the science and concludes its all a scam. He's persuasive and his audience is one of fellow scientists not arm waving chicken littles.

My sister-in-law in Vicksburg told me about the snow today. I was so jealous! I live on the Coast, we’re just having really cold rain :) She never mentioned any snow last year, I’m sure she would’ve because it’s an event to get snow in Mississippi anytime. I almost drove up there today just to look at it!

There is another factor to consider. If we are now heading toward a Global Cooling Solar Cycle, the actions recommended by the Global Warming Crowd can only exasperate the problem (assuming humans have any significant effect at all).

Their timing is so miserable.

They are desperate - this is coldest winter I’ve experienced since my first winter in ABQ in 1999-2000 - they have to bray their hysteria before even the sheeple laugh them off the air.

This is hysterical! What great timing!
So, basically, people can flip back and forth between CBS ranting about "global warming" and the NY Giants and Green Bay Packers freezing their a@@es off in -7 degrees fahrenheit.

That's some rich irony for ya! Maybe I'll set up "picture in picture". Talk about cognitive dissonance.

So, instead of not watching “60 Minutes” on CBS, I will have to not watch a special about global warming on CBS?

Television is getting too complicated! There is now almost too much on to not watch, or not to watch. I’m getting confused.

Of course, the left will ratchet up the BS of Gorebal warming, but I have to interject that all these anecdotal or sophomoric post about how cold it is in one’s town, or “I need some global warming” only obfuscates the real necessity to fight
the bogus Goreon science from leftist that want to control us.
Regardless of the natural shifts in climate, there will always be events that fall out of the norm.
At my age, I have seen them all just in my home city of Memphis... minus 13 one Christmas eve... plus 106 in summer of 1980? where it did not go below 100 all night for several days.

The local reports are cute but getting old and only burn up space on FR.

Better to post the price of regular gasoline at the corner gas station every time the price of NYMEX crude is mentioned. $3.05

Now how about the other 1/4 million gas stations across the country?
