I was deployed to Uzbekistan a few years ago. The people there are only nominally Muslim, especially in the cities, but Uzbeks have only two options: a repressive Soviet style dictatorship, or Islamic fanaticism through the IMU.
The reaction in Tajikistan looks to be just in time.
