I view them both as despicable, but Huckabee is PERSONALLY descipable to me as a hypocrite of the first order while McCain is merely despicable for his policy positions. McCain is also dispositionally unqualified to be President as he is unstable and volatile in the extreme.

I could not take upon myself any responsibility for electing either of these men, nor any of the Democrats. Either I’ll be voting for whoever the Conservative party in my state nominates (right now that’s Fred Thompson) or I’ll stay home. If the Conservative Party holds with Fred, I’ll be fine.

Not really. While Kerry doesn’t have many bills with his name on them, he has been very active arguing for an expanded role for government. I think that was the basic point being made.

Tip for future posts. 1. Start Brain, 2. type post, 2. Hit “Post”.

Why is everyone still including Huckabee? He’s finished. Right now he’s limped back to Arkansas and his next stop is in Texas...not Florida. What does that tell you?

All he’s doing is strategizing to gain a few delegates in southern states. He’s no longer a contender for the nomination.

(I’ve predicted all along he will eventually “lead” an evangelical exit from the GOP. There’s a lifetime of $$$ to be had there.)

(Fred) must keep the nomination far out of reach of Mike Huckabee.

In terms of keeping Huckabee back in Arkansas where he belongs, I would go to the moon and back to support Fred...

Conservatives FANTASIZED about being energized by Fred Thompson - when we still had this perception of Fred the strong US Senator or Fred the cool conservative-sounding character actor.

But once Fred put himself under the bright spotlight of presidential politics, of TV scrutiny and campaigning, the GOP base quickly realized he was past his prime and likely would be unable to motivate 51% of American voters.

It's not that I, or most conservatives, don't want Fred to succeed.

I just don't think he CAN succeed.

Maybe you are right.

I have never been so worried about the future of America than now. Never before have we faced such major problems and had such a dearth of qualified leadership.

I hope Thompson stays in, if only to give thinking conservatives a voice at the convention. The Media has done a great job of propping up the RINOs and relegating the conservatives to the back of the bus in this election. The woeful turnout in most of the GOP contests so far is a clear sign of things to come in November. If we could have all rallied early behind an actual conservative, things might have been different. However, it now seems Republicans will reluctantly be holding their noses and voting for the eventual nominee. However, the long lines on election date will be for the energized left, voting for the committed socialist.

The “fence straddler” that we’ll put up on our side will draw small number of votes from both sides of the fence, but not enough of either to make a difference.

It’s too bad, because both Obama and Hillary, should be weak candidates, if compared side by side with someone with contrasting positions. As it is, Romney can’t criticize the DEMS on Romney Care, or big government. Huckabee can hardly criticise on raising taxes, growing government, and none of the top three can criticize anybody on Amnesty for illegals.

We’re screwed, and we didn’t even get dinner out of it.

I think you are right, I think he will go to Tennessee and visit his mother for a day or two, and then make the announcement that after pondering the consequences he has decided to stop his campaign.

He has no support in Florida, and probably no money to compete there. Rudy has been flooding the media with his commercials all the while there are reports that in some places almost 40% of people have already voted!

Floridas ending date may be February 29th, but if everyone has already voted there before that time, that is really just the day that the ballots will be counted.

Fred did not say last night where he was headed, or if he was headed anywhere at all besides home to see his mother, so to me right there that was the biggest indication that as of last night he was done. He wasn't ready to make it a final decision, but I do think his campaign team will crunch every number available to them in the next few days, and see the writing on the wall.

I really hate to say it but the nominee is going to be Romney, Huckabee or McCain. One of those three.

Probably Romney or McCain.

I won't vote for Democrats. They suck.

I despise them SO much, I will vote against the ones that even have an (R) after their name in the November General.

Exactly. And who controls the media?

The Conservative party is DEAD for now. 70% chance of a President Hillary, 20% chance of a President Obama and 10% chance of a President RINO.

The Democrat leadership is way too clever vs the Republican leadership at present.

Have to be a realist. The Left (and I mean the radical Left) is going to have control in this country for the next 4-8 years. The only role Conservatives will play is to try to limit the damages.

There is nothing new in your arguments. We hear them every four years.

I dont know if you have waited 24 years for a Conservative to lead the GOP, but I have and I am tired of it, and the MSM blackouts. How could any Conservative get behind that racket!!?

Can you help me with something?

If Fred is supposed to be such a strong conservative, then how does that square with everyone (by that I mean the MSM and many Fred supporters here on FR) saying that he will likely throw his support behind McCain?

Yeah, I know they’re friends. But that does say something about the depth of his conservative convictions doesn’t it?

I also heard one talking head (I think on FOX) state that both he and McCain “hate” Romney. Don’t tell me they’re jealous of his hair too!

>>>His daughter recently stated Osama Bin Laden is “cute”. Wonder what she would have thought of Hitler?

She said nothing of the kind. She said Obama was cute. Ted Kennedy drunken gaffes notwithstanding, you DO understand they are two separate people. Don’t you?

And if you do understand the difference, its a pretty shabby way to attack McCain.

I love reading this posts because running all through it is the one scenarios that has been a part of the fight for several weeks for Thompson.

Huckabee gets votes, but does not get the money because his support is an inch deep and a mile wide. Between that and his mouth, Huck will ultimately fade, and indeed SC maybe his high mark.

McCain is ticking, the better he does the more stress he is under. The are already stories leaking out in GOP circles that his people are having a time keeping him focused.

Clear the deck of McCain and Huck and we get back to the original race between Fred and Romney with the Rudy side show.

This race is not just SC but a series of 50 little elections and we are not even close to half way. Fred has strong support in states like Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Tennessee. Fred’s internal support is still good among some of the deepest money men in GOP circles.

If Fred leaves the race it is his decision, but it wont be due to lack of support.

Thompson is closer to Reagan than any of the others.

Reagan knew how to run a campaign and had the requisite fire in the belly.

Thompson has proven his campaign instincts suck, and the only fire we've seen is a pilot light that occasionally sparks up, only to settle back down quickly to 'flicker' mode.

Again, Thompson is no Reagan. Quit deluding yourself.
