“The nomination is going to a brokered convention.
Fred can win it there.”

I’ve seen this scenario floated here on FR. I’m sorry I just don’t see how Fred gets it, even with a brokered convention. His delegate count is almost nothing, his national support is almost nothing. Outside of a small very loyal base Fred just never caught on. I know the rest of the field is largely unacceptable to most conservatives, but it’s just not realistic to think Fred has any chance at this point.
I didn’t see his final numbers in SC. Did he break 20%? I realize that a lot of people here are very disappointed, but it’s time for Fred to put his campaign to bed. The best hope I see now is for 2012.

It’s admirable when one is so enthusiastic about his/her candidate. But there comes a time to be realistic.

FredHeads aren’t there yet. It sounds like Fred is. His speech last night, with no hint of fighting on, signalled he’s throwing in the towel. He doesn’t strike me as the type to carry on a quixotic effort.

I’d like to say it was fun while it lasted. But, looking back, it was more frustrating than inspiring. Fred never did what was necessary to convice voters he was a contender. I like what he says, but his campaign was a disorganized, unfocused mess.”

Right on the money.

I actually read another poster saying that while Fred may have not done that great in SC, for us to be patient, “his time is coming.”

Since when did living in a fantasy land become an acceptable trait for a conservative? Only liberals should play “let’s pretend.”

So you think the GOP is going to lose to Hillary?

I have to disappoint you, but FR, which you are on, is an Independent Conservative Forum. It is not a Republican Party forum.

I mentioned my support of a possible Independent Conservative in the General.

You stated we should vote for a Republican, no matter what, even if he is not conservative, but is a Ripon Society-type or a RINO.

My thinking is much more in line with the statement, and charter, of FREE REPUBLIC.

But there ARE plenty ofREPUBLICAN PARTY blogs and sites out there, if you are interested. I would be happy to suggest them.

Wao!Great statement!
FRED is FRED! Right?
R.REAGAN is R.REAGAN!Right?
But the point is that today Fred is probably the only one who tries to hold on the REAGAN’s legacy....Wrong?

"Our future is too important."

And just how is our future secured by ensuring a Clinton presidency? And please don't tell me that a McCain or Huckabee presidency would be the same thing because that would be dishonest. Alloowing a Clinton pr Osama Obama presidency by chasing a the pipe dream called a Third Party Candidate who couldn't inspire enough people to keep him in the race, is pure irresponsibility.

If I have to vote for a lesser of two evils because that would ensure that my country would be hurt less, then so be it. It's called facing reality and dealing with it.

And with all due respect, the 12 million illegals have been pouring across the border since the Reagan presidency. It didn't happen over the past 8 years.

“16%”

That’s truly disappointing.

I think there’s about a 50-50 chance either way.
Stating the obvious here, but the GOP brand is not in the best condition at the moment. Not pointing fingers, not saying it’s all deserved. Just pointing out the obvious. IMHO the thing to do now would be find a good young conservative and start grooming him now for 2012. Like Obama did with the Dems.....except with real positions as opposed to just saying the word change over and over.

He isn't open to it and has said so previously. I would bet dollars to doughnuts that he will endorse Thompson, if Fred has decided to remain in the race, or will not offer an endorsement at all.

Besides, since Duncan is retiring, his son, Duncan Duane Hunter, is running in San Diego as a Republican in his Dad's district.

No thank you. But your lack of an argument speaks volumes.

I find it quite amusing that you demand that I toe the FR line but are quite indignant that I might suggest that we should support the Republican candidate.

What if the choice were between HUckabee and McCain? At least Huckabee is pro-life and pr-Second Amendment. Huckabee isn’t my first, second or third choice - I am well aware of all his foibles, but John McCain is a totally despicable character who will never get my vote. If he gets nominated, I go third party and hope he loses in the general election.

He is one of the vipers in Congress who drove GWB to the left and did everything he could undermine whatever conservative agenda the Republicans at temped to put through - regardless of how weak-spirited.

Hunter should spend the next 4 years doing the political talk shows, maybe write a book and a weekly column. Start getting a team in place for 2012. Start a low impact grassroots campaign right away. If Obama wins for the Dems he’ll be the same as Carter was in 76. He touches all the right spots but there’s really nothing there. That sets him up to be the most ineffective presidents in history. I think by 2012 should the Dems still have the congress and the WH, there will be enough fallout to elect a conservative, and possibly put the major working parts of the Reagan coalition back together.

I agree with you, but draw a line with John McCain.

McCain has a long history of collaborating with the liberal elements in the Democrat party, going back beyond McCain-Feingold. He doesn’t believe in the first or Second Amendment and is to the left of George Bush. He is old and repulsive and hasn’t a chance in hell of getting elected if he is nominated.

His daughter recently stated Osama Bin Laden is “cute”. Wonder what she would have thought of Hitler? Judging by her face, I guess anyone would look “cute” to her. Apparently reality problems and loss of perspective run in her genes.

I’d support ANY Republican now - except John McCain - he is no Republican.

The way things are shaping up we might just see the first brokered convention in many years. Those delegates are allowed to cast their votes for anyone they see fit. It would be a longshot but not out of the question for Fred to get the nod at the convention. Aside from Hunter, Fred is the only conservative running. Did GW derail the conservative movement for the time being? It is entirely possible. We’ll see.

I just don’t get it, all my friends and peers at work overwhelmingly support Fred, as does FR. I don’t know anybody that supports McClinton or the Huckster, very very few do here on FR. Talk radio don’t does'nt lean that way either.

This is all so surreal to me, such a one sided view of things babbled by the MSM leads me to believe they even have control of the GOP now.

I remember something B.J. Clinton once said, the only thing I believe he said that was true, was “I don’t run America, the media runs America”. And looking at this GOP race so far sure makes me believe it.

Hillary and Obama will dangerously abandon national security so they can promote their domestic agenda. That's a risk I'm not willing to take.

We have caught a break on that score. Our Islamo-fascist foes have NYC as target #1 and DC as target #2. If given a chance they will strike again. The next President lives in target #2. That should give the next President some motivation not to drop the ball that badly--or to learn from their mistakes quickly.

:-)

What a moronic thing to say. Vacuous statements devoid of even the pretense of rational discourse. I’m guessing you’re a Huckabee supporter.
