On Saturday, trouble arrived along with bad weather, the surging campaign of John McCain and the unexpectedly fierce attacks of also-ran Fred Thompson.

I like Fred. But if it starts to look like he is just running a race to split the social conservative vote so McCain or Romney gets in, the social cons will punish the GOP by sitting out and letting 4 years of Hillary focus their little minds.
They sat out in2006 and we gave back congress.
I’m not crying. I said in the past that Huck couldn’t win the nomination. I just didn’t want Fred to help McCain to win. Huck is on track as a VP. Fred went home to mamma.
How old are you, fifteen? Fred’s mother is in the hospital.
If we put up Fred then the “fiscal cons” (we, me), will certainly not sit out. Fred is 100% fiscally Conservative.
If we put up Fred then the “federalist cons” (we,me), will certainly not sit out. Fred is a 100% States-rights, limited Federal Government man.
If we show America that we, as a party, remember what makes us strong, then we can win. When we think that we have to become Democrat-lite our party is gone forever.
“In his concession speech, Huckabee praised McCain for running a clean campaign. “The two of us who finished on top ran with a level of civility,” Huckabee said, marking a contrast to the sometimes vicious battle he waged with Mitt Romney in Iowa, and the constant criticism he received from Thompson. “I would rather be where I am and have done it with honor than to have won with the dishonor of getting there by attacking somebody else.”
HUH? Surely he jests. Pushpolling with phony info...thousands of flyers with inaccurate damaging information...Having Ed the scum as campaign manager...
and Huck can say that with a straight face. Theres proof hes nothing but a lying (self-censored).
This man just cant be more sleazy.
I trust Fred in what he is doing.
I cannot trust McCain, Romney, Huckabee, Giulianni, Hillary, or what they will do in office.
Fred’s mother was in the hospital before the SC primary vote. He will not compete in FL. He is reviewing his options, looking to see if staying in a little while longer will help McCain or hurt him. He may compete in the Southern states to split the southern vote to give McCain a few more delegates and some more momentum. But McCain will have to come up with the money for his expenses. Money McCain doesn’t have.
I am reading along, and Time calls Fred “alsoran” I get pissed.
Then, reading further former SC GOP Gov. Beasley calls him McCain’s “lapdog.”
One wonders why the GOP is so screwed up. But consider a former GOP Governor, calling a fellow Republican a name like that in public.
That behavior is part of the reason. I am no psychologist, and I am not talking about conservative-liberal issues. I’m talking about simple human respect for your fellow man—in this case for a member of your own political party.
And I am old enough to remember Reagan’s 11th commandment, although usually people on FR say it doesn’t apply, for various reasons.
What did I say that was unChristian?
Fred went home to be with his ailing mother. I'd tell you to stick your asinine post where the sun don't shine but with your head already there nothing more will fit.
I have never called Fred a name
Your boy, Huckster, really stirred the pot when he used his religion to bash Romney’s faith. It was a real subject of discussion after the Mass this morning, several of us thought we should go back in for confession. The Huckster used sacred worship to meet his cheap political goals, it is unforgivable.
BTW, did you see the dog killer/white thug rapper son standing behind Huckster last night as he gave his concession speech? Wow, they did a real fine job with that one.
