I hear some states even charge a sales tax on top of the state gas tax they charge. I bet the sheeple of those states aren’t even aware of it.

This particular point is somewhat lost in the argument. As gas prices go up, the state and local governments are in a windfall with unexpected (and increasing) revenue. If the state & local politicians want to make a difference, they should cap the SALES TAX on gas - even if it a short-term fix. One local village official here in Illinois wants to go after “big gas” companies but refuses to look at self-capping local fuel taxes.

California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia all include either sales tax, other percentage based tax or price adjusted tax for gasoline and diesel.
