Why is this? What is their motive? Neither could be so stupid as to think that the "Palestinians" will come to some sort of permanent peace agreement with Israel on terms acceptable to both. So what? Maybe this article hints at it? Rice and Bush obviously see it as in our interest or theirs to continue the charade. But the Saudis don't. Or maybe they do, but they just want to be seen as not doing; and they have the Bush/Rice team doing their bidding? And Bush and Rich see this as in our interest; or theirs. The idea is to promote a client state that can act as a proxy for the west's interests(i.e. not kill Israelis, be prosperous enough to defuse arab rage, preserve Israel's jewish character). That's was the idea in Oslo and that was the idea when Jorge demanded elections(boy those worked well). There will be no peace until Israel has normalized relations with Syria and the Saudis. Jorge and gang have wised up(a little) that's why the Saudis and Syria at Annapolis.
The Saudis and Syrians have revealed no real interest in normalizing relations with Israel. I think the talk of tolerating “Arabic Jews” (sans Israel) would be the closest thing to an honest, moderate point of view in those countries. An unrealistic one at that, if history is instructive.
In other words, there will be no peace. Not for at least another generation or three.

Yeah, oodles of good came out of that one.
