State Sen. Paula Sandoval, D-Denver, wants to end some of the uncertainty that may surround young adults in Colorado who are U.S. citizens and qualify for in-state tuition - but whose parents are in the country illegally.
Senate Bill 79 would help remedy one of the unintended consequences of a 2006 law that was meant to tackle illegal immigration.
It would give students the legal standing to establish residency without exposing their parents to added scrutiny. Students could then receive the significant financial benefit of in-state tuition without risking getting their own parents into trouble with immigration authorities.

What is it about ILLEGAL that they don’t understand?
This really frosts me!! I live in Texas. We are legal, taxpaying citizens.
My older son went to school in Colorado. We paid through the nose for the “privilege.” (The program he wanted was not available in Texas).

>>What is it about ILLEGAL that they dont understand?
The part where “illegal” is assumed to be a bad thing, instead of a good thing.
I know let everyone pay their own way. I did but not straight out of high school and not over 4 years; more like 12 years.
It can be done!
It is a crime for Mexicans to get lower tuition than New Mexicans.
I am confused here. They will get in state rates! And the parents will not be exposed! Great, never mind that I have 3 in college and I get no breaks.
That leads me to what about financial aid? One has to file a FAFSA for it and one has to file income tax return in order to file the FAFSA.
Am I missing something here?
Yeah, the rules are for you not them.
Seems simple enough to me.
Why don’t the people who want reduced tuition for children of illegals set up a fund and give them scholarships? It would preserve the integrity of the legal system and stop forcing taxpayers to subsidize lawbreakers against their will.
You just answered your own question. They don’t want to pay for it. Just like everything else, they want the taxpayers to pay for it.
I really would have alot less gripes about ‘them’ if they would put their money where their mouth is.
