Clearly, from FR’s poll, Thompson’s people will gravitate to Romney.

It's not clear at all. FR was overwhelmingly for Fred Thompson and yet the voters followed the MSM lead. So just because you see some shift here, it does not mean the rest of the voters will follow.

How bad could McCain be by comparison?

Worse than Mitt, Huckabee, Hillary or Obama. He won't win the GOP nomination.

Now THAT is funny.

I’ve been comparing Romney with Fred today, trying to warm up to Mitt.

It’s very depressing for a real conservative from the Missouri Ozarks.

Not sure ARG is automatically pro-McCain

ARG’s previous FLA poll way back in September had Giuliani leading by +8

ARG* 09/15 - 09/18
McCain 18
Giuliani 26
Romney 14
Huckabee 3
Thompson 16
Paul 3

And she wouldn’t touch guns for fear of angering the NRA.

Hillary Clinton is coming after your guns more than anyone, although Obama and Edwards may almost be as anti-gun.

From a CNN report (click for the full story) about Hillary in 2000 running for the Senate:

"I believe we need a comprehensive plan to stop gun violence, and it is one of the reasons I am running for the Senate," the first lady said.

. . .

If elected to the Senate, Mrs. Clinton said she'd work with Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) on her bill that would require prospective gun buyers to first obtain a gun license by passing a background check and a safety course exam. The bill would also establish a national registry to record all gun sales.

Mrs. Clinton also announced her support for the creation of a "ballistic database" for all new guns, requiring gun makers or sellers to fire guns before sale and send that "ballistic fingerprint" to law enforcement. [i.e., a registry of every gun sold with its ballistics and the data base would include a gun owner for each gun]

. . .

The first lady reiterated her support to require trigger locks on handguns, to hold adults responsible for their children's use of guns, to raise the youth handgun ban from age 18 to 21, to limit gun sales to one per month per adult and to have the Consumer Products Safety Commission regulate guns.

Hillary Clinton is an incredible threat to the Second Amendment. She may have temporarily backed away from some of these proposals, but she will go back to them and worse if she can.

As maintained by Gun Owners of America here, Clinton is a hardcore dedicated, long-term, gun grabber.

Hillary is not like some liberals for whom gun control is simply a ticket to winning an election. Deny those lukewarm gun grabbers an advantage for supporting gun control and they simply abandon gun control. Not so for Hillary. In her heart and soul, Hillary wants to take your guns. If elected, she (and here administration) will get up every morning thinking about how to restrict the Second Amendment and whether it's the right day to take your rights, eventually your guns.

Alot of absentees may have already been sent in on Thompson’s (and perhaps Rudy’s) behalf. This poll is having a significant impact of today’s realclearpolitics.com average. Any goosing of McCain’s numbers has an exponential “momentum” effect that the MSM so loves.

That’s exactly how I feel. The GOP can curl up and die a long overdue death.

Rasmussen consistently underpolls McCain (their screen is too tight). Survey USA had McCain up 5, which is more realistic when you think about what happened during the weekend.

“POLL: ARG Florida Primary (McCain leads by 7)”

Has ARG been right or even CLOSE in any primary of caucus yet this year?

Rasmussen has Romney up 5.

ARG is crap, but this poll is roughly in line with most of the others, McCain on top with Mitt perhaps moving up a bit.

I thought Rasmussen had Mitt at 25% and McCain at 20%, and that's before Fred withdrew?

True, Rasmussen was and is the only poll showing Mitt with a lead in Florida.

LOL...the Romulan is as bad as his “brainwashed” old man when it comes to fighting a war. With McCain, at least the haters here on FR, should be content that he’ll probably only seek one term then turn the reins over to his VEEP—probably FRed.

C’mon Florida. Let’s not let McInsane win this primary. Vote Mitt. Please. For the sake of the nation.
