He would have in all likely hood been dismissed from Annapolis for poor grades, except having a father and grandfather both Naval Academy graduates (and later Admirals), he was given a pass. Later in Navy flight school he was showing little promise and would have been kicked out except for the families Navy tradition. McCain is a privileged son, not a top drawer intellect.
