I think that if they found the mechanism behind a cause of anal cancer, this would be all over the major scientific journals. They wouldn’t have to blame it on gays — after all, heterosexuals do it too. There are too many people researching this desperately for a promising lead to go over 30 years uninvestigated.

I would not encourage anyone to contact NARTH or Dr. Nicolosi for objective scientific information on anal cancer. Dr. Nicolosi has certainly spent a lot of time trying to help gay people stop being gay, and I think a lot of his efforts are well-intentioned, but he is not a scientist. He is a psychoanalytically-oriented therapist who has become pretty closed to scientific data that are not consistent with his world view. The whole field of psychoanalysis (tracing back to Freud) is remarkably devoid of science, with its emphasis on unconscious (and thus unobservable) processes. In any event, he is certainly no expert on anal cancer.
Wow. Can one not deduce that anal sex is a major culprit of, or at least contributor to, anal cancer regardless of the sexual orientation of the participants?

Yes you can...you can be paranoid. Tis not good to live your life in fear of dying. It is a proven statistic that 1 out of 1 will die.
Disease processes are natural events. Some people bristle at the suggestion, but nature does not care and nature does not need human permission.

It would certainly seem that anal sex plays a role, but all we have are correlational data — we know that HPV seems to be present quite often in cases of anal cancer. We also know that many more people have HPV than get anal cancer. It does seem to be a marker, and may play a causal role, but no one knows exactly how. People can get HPV through anal sex with or without a condom. However, we don’t have any good evidence that anal sex in the absence of HPV infection places people at risk.
Bottom line (sorry!) — it’s a good idea to avoid anal sex with those who are HPV infected (and it’s impossible to rule out HPV based on visual inspection).
That said, I still haven’t been able to dig up anything more on those disoriented sperm. Even if they adhered to other cells, the mechanism by which they would cause cancer seems unclear.
