Atilla Yayla, a Turkish professor, is living in self-imposed exile in England after causing an uproar with a speech in Turkey in 2006. He was charged with insulting the legacy of Ataturk, Turkeys founder.
Traitor! a newspaper headline shouted. His college dismissed him. State prosecutors in this western city, where he spoke, opened a criminal case against him. His crime? Violating an obscure law against insulting the legacy of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Turkeys founder.
