Just got this book and flipped to one of the most crucial sections, that on Annie Lee Moss. As best I can tell, Evans is not only solid, but has unearthed exceptional FBI documents that prove that Moss and others were, indeed, communists.
For me, there were only two pieces of evidence I needed to convince me that McCarthy’s reputation was railroaded to Hell.
1.) Ann Coulter’s description of the Joseph Welch encounter at the Army-McCarthy hearings was SO completely different from what I had learned my entire life from school and the media, that I located and read the actual transcripts. Ann Coulter’s description and characterization of that particular “Have You No Decency” meeting was right on the money. McCarthy was unfairly demonized and maligned.
2.) The Liberals and the media today practice the EXACT same type of character assassination that they did back then. To me, the most influential book in my life regarding politics is “Witness” by Whittaker Chambers, which I read after I researched the McCarthy hearings. I was dumbstruck to see the way the Democrats and Media treated him. It is EXACTLY the same.
That was all I needed to know.
