Another belief is that dolphin attacks on their young may be down to mating instincts, because when her calf dies the female dolphin is ready for mating again. But the experts are still not positive that it is only males who do the attacking.

I bet they have always done this but now the marine experts are just seeing it or acknowledging it. We grow up being told how almost holy dolphins are and how great white sharks are just innocent little fuzzies who don’t mean to hurt people - they just get confused and think a swimmer is a seal. Remember when experts acknowledged what native peoples have always known, that chimps hunt and eat meat? Quel Horreur!
