This story was orchestrated by the pros at the McCain campaign. The polling is clear that Thompson’s people went to Romney. It helps them to dangle a carrot of hope out there that Thompson is not 100% done.

Thompson’s letter of withdrawl was brief, direct, and unequivocal. Let him be.

I don’t see McCain being behind this, this is simply loyalty to the last remaining Conservative that has now exited the race. They don’t need a carrot, just some hope because the rest of the field is sadly lacking.

Many have gone to Romney, but it is a default position so it is not some victory to be bragged about.

Fred maybe out, but he is till a factor for us Conservatives.
